Forget what the witnesses said; that's secondary. What does Schneider 's log book say? I just pray their legally supposed to be there!

The accident was on the 278 about 15 miles from the line. I think the town was called Lakeville.
    1 fatality
Several minor injuries, most people getting beat up in their cars dodging flying debris.
    I messed up Schneider driver.
Several cars received minor damage from flying debris.
1 car had to be towed. The car in front caught the brunt of the debris. Destroyed her windshield and almost completely pushed it into the drivers area. Front looked like someone dropped a bucket of scrap metal on her hood and front end.
Only 4 big pieces. The rear axle, the twisted deformed engine block, about 1/4 of her rear hatch, and something that looked like a piece of body molding.
Almost everything else was about the size of an 8gal trash can or smaller.
The impact was so great it cut the young lady in half.
It took emergency crews almost an hour to find all her parts.

You know what really gets me.
This accident was caused because of excessive speed.
Not two miles past the accident, the speed limit on 278 is 65. After coming through a horrific accident like this, cars and trucks were right back to tailgating, speeding, hopping lanes.
Everyone one of them horrified at the accident.
You would think it be a wake up call, BUT NO.
I had my cruise set right at 65, and cars and trucks were passing me like I was in slow motion.

I almost took out a teenager in Jacksonville after him and his idiot friend skipped across during the evening rush across the southbound. I was in the left number one in front of a herd at 75 or so northbound. His friend made it across our side in about three steps and he came over the median. Took two steps into my path.

I tossed the anchor and made that car see about using the ABS system on that dry concrete. But he decided to fall down on his skinny butt in the meidan strip and yanked his feet and legs out from under my bumper. 75 to 24 or so in about 80 feet was nothing at all until I realized a greater danger from the herd behind me now tossing anchors...

I got really angry with that idiot. Suppose we hit him. It's vehicular manslaughter to begin with, with jailing etc. He gets jaywalking at best a ticket... His friend died a thousand deaths thinking he lost his buddy under my wheels listening to that howl from our massive stop.

It does not bother me anymore in terms of being upset etc. Toss that boy onto the pile of lives I saved. But he saved himself. It would have been way better for both idiots to walk 100 yards south and crossed over on a sidewalk equipped highway bridge above us all.

In a big truck? Ive had my share of near misses when people coming against me head on. Im still here and so they are. I hope. THose Im still angry about, even 30 years after the fact. I hope they had a nice life with a thousand children. Stupid drunken fools....

    edit.

There is a small voice in my head deep down that says it's best I am medically retired. I got to the point at which I might not bother to move the big rig out of the way of the next pack of idiots to wanna head on with me. That is one of the reasons I have had enough of that. No more.

Texting and cell phone use is the new driving under the influence of the 21st century. I could sit here for hours typing about stories where this has ended tragically. Because I no longer drive when I am in a car I am free to observe what other drivers are doing as I go down the road. Most are on their phones. One day there will be a Candy Lightner type that will start getting the nations laws changed to at least slow this down.
