Start with a trucker that isn't as dumb as a rock in the first place.

I have told drivers that I do split break, some of the responses back have been

    • You can't do that anymore
    • You can't start with the 8 first
    • You can't start with the 2 first
    • You get 2 extra hours of drive time using the split so 6.5 hours driving each side of the split
    • It only helps the company never the driver
    • DOT doesn't allow splitting

Me I like to use it to 'flip' my clocks. Pick up a load about 11AM who wants to try to find parking after 1900? Shut down with everyone else for 8 hours sleeper then bounce. The exhausted out of hours driver creeping around the parking lot will thank you for starting your clock at midnight. Drive a few hours and now you have time for a sit down big fat breakfast. Drive a few more hours and shut down for 10. Now back on schedule.

I hear the same BS too.

Invariably, some of them usually screw it up by stopping and taking the first break at a distance outside what they could do in 11 hours. Then pitch a fit because they have to stop again making them late.

If you can only do 650 miles in 11 hours and you break with an 8 in the sleeper 700 miles out... You'll take your two later. but Guess what, you'll come up 50 miles short and have to take another 8 before you can finish that last 50 mikes.

so I remind my trainees to know their travel windows, calculate and plan the stops accordingly so you don't wind up having to take an extra break.

I am very good at math but I am afraid I would be one of those blank stares, LOL. Going to do some studying and try and fix that before I get gone next week. Thanx for the website, I will check it out this evening after work.

If you have a smart phone check out Big Road. It's a free logging app that will let you check your paper logs.

I am on e logs and use it when the Q com sensor takes a dump and I have to use paper. Once you get used to punching buttons drawing lines and figuring out where you are is a pain
