    Anyone rebuild their starter?
Id like to get rebuild kit and rebuild mine as a pm service. After a while starter starts spinning without starting or just clicks.
Truck is kwT660, I wonder if dealer would have kit?

Do web search for starter rebuilders in your area. I have a business close by that rebuilds all electric gizmos. I thought he told me once that most times starters just need cleaning and new brushes.
    Good luck.

I've taken a couple starters apart. Honestly I'd just change out the starter when it craps out.

Just had my alt rebuilt at a local place as a pm service. 800k miles and the bearings were starting to have THAT feel when I spun it by hand. Took them 2 days at about 1/2 the cost of a rebuilt one. Was at home for the whole week anyway tinkering with the truck.

Replaced my starter last year with a NEW one for $269 I think? Maybe $369? Ordered it in the morning and put it in that night. On the road in the morning. Was not compleatly bad but ocationaly would not turn over. Replaced the batteries first but same problem. New starter no more problem.

    Good luck.

My starter went out again last Saturday. It was a MT42. I replaced it with a MT39. What a better option. Much easier to change, slightly shorter and A LOT lighter. Only downside is it sounds like a little car starter. It was $320 brand new from International dealer.

If you can find the kits, this is certainly something you can do to save some money if you have the time and like to tinker. For any shop, this is no longer practical and we just r&r the whole thing.

Oxbow, SAR and AModelCat Thank this.

You'll have more than $300 worth of your time rebuilding it. Just replace it.

Oh, and don't make the same mistake I did by putting another one of those heavy ######## in. Use an MT39.

A buddy of mine had his starter fail the other day. Bought one of those gear reduction starters from a local pete dealer for $277. I thought that was a very good price so I bought one for when the time comes.
