I told my boss one time that I had dealt with a pretty nice state trooper. He looked at me and said “ he can end your career with a smile on his face. “ ever since then I don’t care if he’s nice or a complete douche. Just get it over with and let me go on my way.

You'll find, for the most part, that they are decent people just doing a job. Be up front and professional with them, you'll get the same in return.

But there are jagoffs in every field, and you might find the occasional one.

$0. Clean inspections are an expected part of a driver's job.

However, time getting inspected paid out at $10/hr.

That is cheap on their part. Oh well, I guess they make up for it somehow.

In regards to inspections, it's not really cheap, as a clean inspection pays the same as a dirty one - the driver gets paid the same either way. Plus the driver gets paid for running equipment through the shop. And in my 14 years there I was only inspected 6 times, so it's not a big line item thing. There isn't publicly available data, but I'd wager that Schneider has an absurdly low inspections per mile number compared to both comparable carriers and the industry at large.

The problem is the rate for on duty time is too low. Far too low. Without any other accessory pay, on duty time should pay out at a minimum of $18 an hour. I'd say it should be closer to $25 an hour, but according to the 'esteemed members of TTR', I'm a godless communist.

I was detained 35 minutes and I was on duty. I did get paid $10/hr, so actually I did get paid for the inspection. Not much, but I did get paid.

Just coming off home time. I’m ready for tomorrow morning to get here. I bobtailed home on Monday so I don’t know where I’ll get sent to next. Been hauling a lot from Kansas to Texas. I like it so far, but I’d like to see some other parts of the country too. I’m just happy to be on the road. Maybe soon my wife will be able to come with me. That’d be awesome! I think God has plans for me and I’m feeling up to whatever He has in store. I’d like for my wife to see I-30 headed north into Dallas. It looks just like a painting thru that huge windshield. Absolutely beautiful view. I’d like for my wife to experience that before she goes blind. I’d love for her to see the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian mountains as well. I’m pretty busy with traffic and keeping this truck in line, but she could look around and see the sights. I’d probably have to remind her that I don’t have much time to see very much. It looks like we are going to lose our house, so it’s very important to me to be as careful as I can possibly be. We’ve got plans to one day buy a lot in around Grenada, Ms and get a tiny house with a garage/storage building on it. We both miss being in that area. This time when we buy we’re going to have saved enough money to put a big chunk down on it so our payments are low and can pay it off fast. I’m going to miss my current neighbors and the town, but I’m not going to miss the high property taxes and high water bill! Our last water bill was right at $100 for 1 month. That’s crazy! I’m not looking forward to going through bankruptcy but we’ve got no choice. Not with all the money we owe and no way to pay it back. I know I’ll make better money in the future but I can’t spend what I don’t make right now.

I guess I should have explained my wife’s vision issue. I’m sorry I didn’t explain it before my last post.
My wife has histoplasmosis in both of her eyes. Her right eye is worse than her left. She’s had 35+ injections in her right eye and 30+ in her left eye. They treat it the same as macular degeneration. She can’t drive at night and she has a hard time driving in rain or when it’s cloudy. She never complains about it. I feel bad for her but she never lets it bother her.

Left Jefferson City, Mo this morning and headed to KC, then to Topeka and now on my way to Colorado Springs. Drop a load there and head back to Topeka. Don’t know after that. I’m getting used to this truck and how it reacts to different loads on hills. I *might* be ready for something long and steep, but I’m not going to push my luck. I think I’m ready… Cabbage I don’t know about- lol. If my wife was with me I think I’d like to do the lower 48 and stay out longer. I made up my mind that I’d never complain about where they send me, I’m just glad to be behind the wheel. Early day tomorrow!
