    Your ready & doing fine.

Just remember the old adage on mountain descents.

You can go down a mountain many, many times too slow.

You'll only go down too fast ONCE.

Did you see/read this other very recent Forum thread:

If I had a trailer come off the truck do I need to tell my next employer

This above thread is a wonderful example of what can happen to a driver who didn't:
    • avoid a "high hook"
    • perform a tug test....& also
    • visually inspect the kingpin/lock jaw connection (preferably with a good flashlight)
....before pulling the trailer with the landing gear up.

Also -- as noted/mentioned in the same thread -- if you've left your rig...even just for a few minutes....it's always a good idea as part of a trailer "TIV"....to visually inspect the trailer connection/release handle position -- before driving away....to ensure no one has tampered with your equipment.

Later on -- if you drive within a fleet that has trailer air-release systems....that system largely defeats the tampering problem.

The first time I ran Cabbage it was about 3am and dry. Set the jakes and rode down the hill at a very controlled speed. No big deal.

or...when you park, set the trailer brakes, pull ahead with the tractor, and set tractor brakes. It put's pressure on the pin, hard to pull the handle.

I’m very picky about my pre trips. I check the release handle every time before I get back in the cab. Schneider put me in a 2026 Cascadia and it has the air operated 5th wheel. I still check it. My 5th wheel looked a little bit dry on my last hook so I greased it. I’m very thorough on my inspections

I was told by my driver leader to keep doing what I’m doing and he said that I would go very far at Schneider. I’m not sure but I think I got a pay raise… Surely I wouldn’t go up 18cpm being as new as I am….. would I?? It sure looks like I did!

Oh I sure do! Every single hook, every single time I leave the truck and before I get back in the seat. I’m paranoid about 1, a high hook and 2, dropping a trailer. It’s easy to do the right thing and be sure. It’s not so easy to explain why something went wrong.

    Bad news though, @Cherokee65.

    You skipped a couple steps.

To be considered a true trucker, you're supposed to start out driving an 'ol, wore out piece of crap first.

Your going to miss out on all the fun times & experience that provides now........:dontknow: :laughing-guffaw:
