How does that get jammed? I’m very easy on it when I push it. Weird. Is there a quick fix? It’s been in the lower 30’s here at night. I’m not one to complain about things. I just keep trucking’! Down in the shop doesn’t pay Schneider’s bills or my bills! Although, now that we’re selling our house….. our bills are not even $1,000/mo now.

Keep this one in mind for the future, in case you get bored.
The wife might enjoy this one. I've seen their trucks in Las Vegas. Yeah, I live in Henderson/Las Vegas. Moved here from Tennessee.

There are too many "comforts" today that most drivers wouldn't drive without. Back when I started you didn't have anything to compare to except drive.

A "B" model Mack with passenger bench seat was your bed. Take a blanket, pillow and if it was hot open the windows. Also no a/c, no p/s, no bunks, no inverters, no cabinets, no tv, just truck.

I moved up to an "R" model Mack with 2 seats but no bench, still no comfort features but a Maxidyne power train that was a real improvement and no 2 stick tyranny to shift.

I eventually moved into the closet thing to luxury many years later. A Western Star C/O with Cummins KT 450, 13spd. Double O/D, 4.10 differential and a bunk. Truck was a dream with p/s, a/c and air seats for it's day.

Scotty’s Restaurant always was pricey but the food was top notch and delicious. I was easy to satisfy for dinner with a simple open faced turkey or beef sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Enough on my glorious career Cherokee65 just be happy, healthy and careful out there. It is a wonderful career if you have the right attitude and a good company relationship to work with.

I always enjoy stories of how trucking was back in the day. That’s how new or newer drivers learn to respect the hardships of those drivers before us. And it gives us an idea of just how good we have it today. Thank you very much for sharing!!
I have a question for you about this little building on the back side of Scotty’s. What was the purpose of this little building? It looks like it’s got some kind of ATM on it.

It looks like an old time scale area. I used to use one at Charlie T's in Bunnell, Fl. on I 95 near St. Augustine when it was open. You would pull onto an axle scale, go inside and punch a paper ticket, move truck to the drive axles and punch the ticket then move to the trailer axles and punch again. You would leave money in cash box and I believe it was 50c per axle. And believe it or not everyone was honest back then it seemed like because you could even make change for bigger bills.

Then again it also could be an old bag ice machine.

I miss the days of honesty. Everything was “On Your Honor.” Today, only a few remain that has true honor and it’s very sad. People back then had integrity. Very, very sad when I look back. We never locked our doors and left the keys in everything. Today, you’re lucky to drive through a city and not get shot. You don’t look at anyone, just drive through to get to the next open fields where you can breathe a little bit. People get crazy now.

Pictures promised, pictures delivered. I’m a man of my word. My word and my handshake is all that I have. I don’t reckon it’s a bad way to live your life, to be honest, hard-working and have integrity. Without cussing like a sailor too. If any of you meet me in person… I’m the same way online as I am in person. I don’t change to suit others and I like to meet good honest people. :)
