Thanks I think I just need the experience all the experienced drivers are talking about to get the feel for this. It's really bothered me in the past but with all this new knowledge hopefully that will change

Surprised this thread made it to three pages and no ones simply said "just don't stop" yet
truckingmechanic Thanks this. -
Haha that's a good idea too but I was looking more for like when you're at a stop light and you're loaded and have to start on a hill. This is when I have the most problems
-
If we are going to be downright technical then you need to change fuel to power. Your sentence using with " no fuel added" sounds like you're fueling your truck. We know what you meant just like everybody knows when the other poster said "gas". We don't have to be that technical. If you're unclear on what a poster is trying to say just ask him. That way everyone stays peaceful.truckingmechanic Thanks this.

Haha don't you love when people get all technical with all this stuff? Staying peaceful would be a lot easier imoGasHauler Thanks this.

Most of the time I don't use lo or 1st but when I have to im glad I have those gears. A lot of the time new drivers have problems shifting out of the low hole while at a crawl and end up grinding, I did. 90% of the time im in 2nd on a 10 speed. really cant start in 3rd unless empty, some of you starting out in 4th must have lower gears than me
-
Wow I don't know what to say lol. That LO gear is there for a reason. If you are taking off in 2nd gear uphill heavy from a stop it stands to reason that it will stall out. don't be afraid of LO gear. I own my truck so I take off in LO gear even bobtail lol, This coming March will be 5 years in the same truck, no work on the engine or transmission.

Haha that is quite the video but with a lot of good information! Thanks! Guys let me know what you think of the video

Some people, when learning, ease the clutch out intel the vehicle starts to move and dump the clutch stalling it. Maybe have someone video you so you can watch yourself.
Some trucks apply the clutch more as the vehicle starts to move when loaded. The engine, frame, and cab do not all stay in the same relationship and change the clutch linkage as torque is applied. You might try slightly depressing the clutch, only about a 1/6- 1/8 inch, as the truck starts to move and then continue slow release.
I was taught on hill, lowest gear, hand valve, throttle as a last resort. Practice and good luck. -
Worst truck I drove for taking off loaded on an incline was a Cabover Freightliner with a Cummins 300 Formula / 7 spd trans. Wouldn't wish that on nobody.
You have gotten a lot of good advice here in these post, learn it, utilize it, and you will be fine. Been in situations with certain trucks that I personally actually used the Jakes going through the first few gears, especially off road. Good luck.
