Starting out with CRST this week!

The best deals for a driver are dedicated and less than truckload (LTL). You show up, drive the truck, go home, get paid. New, well maintained equipment and about $2k/wk. Home every night and weekends off.

The biggest dedicated carriers in our neck of the woods (I live near Issaquah) are Cardinal, Ryder, Ruan, Penske and JB Hunt.

I can recommend Peninsula, Old Dominion, Estes, FedEx Freight and UPS for LTL.

I was a driver and later a trainer for CRST. I drive dedicated for a local shoe store now. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

 

You do actually have an advantage as a woman. There will be jobs that require a certain amount of experience to even apply.
Apply anyway, as a woman you just might get a chance.
I used to do fuel delivery and worked with several ladies. Local work, home every night. Only saw one lady hassled and the other drivers forced the jerk outta the industry.
Don't limit yourself or listen to those that say you have to do OTR and pay your dues. I didn't and I'm only a OK driver on my best day.

Hey it saves money. My teammate and I shower together all the time. Of course after a decade of marriage I guess it's alright.

 

Backing up is about 80-90% having the right setup. If you have enough room try and make it as straight as possible for your back. If you don't and it's a tight dock this is what they'll probably teach you at school. Drive about a tractors length past the spot, hook a hard right 90° then hard left 90°. That will most times get you set up for about a 45° back.

Pay attention to your tandems and tail swing. If the trailer tandems are slid up all the way you'll have a lot more tail swing and can hit the trailer on your blind side pretty easy w/o taking it into consideration

That would depend on what your needs and goals in this industry are. Need to be home every night? LTL is one solution, as are places like Pepsi, Coke, local manufacturers, etc. Don't mind OTR? Come up with someone that meets your needs with hometime, benefits, pay, etc.

 

Promise your family to not drive for CRST or be in any other abusive relationship.

Was with them for six months. I pray for your survival.

 

Uhhhh yeah, I suppose that might depend on the terminal or the company but yeah no. At least with Estes, they are NOT known for good equipment and in fact some of the equipment that they had was absolutely garbage and downright shameful to be driving/pulling. LTL does pay great yes but many times the Mega OTR companies actually have way better/newer equipment than what these LTL companies have.
