I'll be starting this new adventure on April 1st with Millis Transfer in Hamilton, OH! I did not expect them to accept me do to my patchy work history with the union but they understood and I got in, I was originally going to start on the 29th but got moved up to the 1st. I've got a couple of questions regarding the training; I understand that you test in your' trainers truck which is an automatic. Do learn how to drive on a manual while in class or is it all automatic? I'm also assuming that you don't take your' test after you graduate but that your' otr trainer will decide with you when to take the test. I'm a confident driver but I would prefer taking the test after I have a couple thousand miles of driving before taking the test.

Check out the thread Millis OTR Journal, it’s pages and pages of good info about Millis that will probably answer all your questions and there’s Millis trainers in their that will also answer questions for you, congrats on your new job.

I just finished the school in Trenton, OH. You do learn how to drive manual (10 spd) while on the range, but all road driving will be with an automatic. You will schedule your CDL test with your home state after you go out with your trainer. Let me know if you have other questions. Bill was a blast to work with over the past few weeks, you'll have a lot of fun.

Thanks! Okay I was a little leary about the manual but now that I know it's only done on the range I have no concerns. I'm curious why they even use manual since you'll get a restriction. That's great that you get to drive in the real world before you take the test, you have lot better odds of passing. One last question; how many hours per day on in class? I don't care I'm just curious because I know Swift is 11 hours.

I think your first week will be 7:30-4pm, second week is 6am-5pm and 3rd week will be on the road so hours will vary. You do get an hour for lunch everyday that the company pays for.

    kbeam418 Thanks this.

That's not bad at all! Especially with an hour lunch, I don't mind eight hours but 11 hours for three weeks is rough.
