That's one thing I could never understand. Open carry just screams "Hey, shoot me first!"

Or if there's an unarmed thug who's feeling froggy, you're a prime target for him to grab, shoot, and run....

I have a few ol sayings like I haven't needed a gun since I was big enough to kill a bear with my bare hands. In seriousness you do always need to be aware of your surroundings, odds of actually having to defend yourself are not great. Honestly it could be broad daylight as easy as a dark corner before dawn. Thing about a side arm is if it's not loaded and strapped on your hip it's apt to not be available when needed. It sux having a tool you need when working on the truck and having to crawl out to get it. Also if you reach for it the decision has been made follow thru if you hesitate it may be used on you. Good judgement and not looking for trouble goes a long way. Don't look like a victim. Attention to detail, is a good trait to have. Years ago I had a good friend give me a good size heavy horse quirt with long poppers on it. Fold the poppers stick it in my boot top if it's sketchy. My jeans are never over my boots. Never had to use it, out trucking. For in the cab my heeler don't miss nothing. What I like is he isn't loud and obnoxious. The ####### may not even hear him which equals more fun for me

I carry Glock 30 in a retention holster on my belt when in free states that honor my permits.

Although, in jacket weather it becomes concealed. ;)

I have a good thumb-break holster for my S&W, for those times I had to open carry. My other holster is pretty simple, non-retention, I mainly use that when out in the woods or at a range.

Plus why anyone wants to announce "hey mr. Criminal! I've got a gun. Kill me first so you have no threats!!" I'll never understand.

On top of it there are many people ignorant to firearms. I choose to conceal and not help spread paranoia that leads to gun laws, that only make the problems worse.

I love 1911's, but would never carry one for defense. Glocks for me all day long. I keep 33 round magazines in my truck ready to go.

Probably pretty hard to tuck that into your waistband and not print, eh?

Wait until you see the recent philly you tube of a thuggie breaking out his AK 47 from down his left leg to shoot up a bus steps doorway in the middle... (Truly darwinism... it's on you tube.)

As far as the 33 rounds, that's 20 seconds of play time. I raced my trainer with his 33 rounder reloading mine three times (Colt) and he completed his stack approx 2 seconds before I finished my 32nd on the 4th reload. All of the rounds were both on paper targets in mass at 4 yards. I generally roll with 9+1 in the colt and then 3 reloads stashed in the IWB left side times two and one in a pocket somewhere usually on the right so that if the left hand or arm gets destroyed, there is still the possibility to reload. (You would kick the slide with bootheel to get chambered quickly... with one hand. OR even a big belt buckle hooked by your rear sights unless you were already slide locked back due to dry mag.)

The gold standard for training happens to be a virtual stimulator with a stripped gun wired to the computer to resolve the scenario presented to you. There are mixed do shoot, dont shoot and grey areas in those engagements for those of you unfamiliar with the law related to drawing in public in various states. In Arkansas you are not obligated to draw and literally can be charged with brandising leveling to threatening etc on up if anyone saw you draw for no reason.

Many times Ive read about shoots that were good when two rounds stopped a boy in Oklahoma from being a threat but turned to murder against the Druggist when he ran outside and fired a few more rounds at the fleeing boy. One bullet is what seperates a good shoot from a truly terrible one that lands you into the pen for life or into death row.

Stop the threat. Then the shoot is over. It's over. Then scan. Always.
