I have never had a problem sleeping in truck stops or rest areas over the years. Just a reminder though, if you're sleeping somewhere in a wideout area along the road exit or maybe in a strip mall, make #### sure your logs show Sleeper time in case the man wants to do a quick inspection on you. If you were to show Off Duty when he wakes you up that is a log falsification right there, you'd be wishing for a roving undead brain eating zombie gang instead.

I do, but I don't go to any of the aforementioned states. I generally only run in the states that recognize my permit, or allow me to travel with it in the safe, unloaded.

What good is a unloaded weapon.
Excuse me Mr Badguy, wait a second I have to open my locked box and retrieve my clip and then load my weapon. Ok I'm done, please continue. Ops I'm dead already.

Yes, you may be able to *legally* (Federal law) carry a firearm Through New Jersey, but you have to remember that a lot of those cops will do whatever they can to enforce *their* laws, so expect to be treated like a gun dealing terrorist on your way to rape the cops daughter, and then be prepared to prove in court that you only passed through, and made no stops beyond a quick fuel stop, without eating at the restaurant etc.
And even then, you may not get your gun back, you have just lost months of your life, and lots of money.

There are many horror stories of people going through stuff like this in NJ.
One guy was flying somewhere, had his gun properly packed and TSA checked and accepted, and his flight made a stop at Newark Airport, since it is a hub for that airline, and while he was waiting to continue, they announced that the plane had mechanical issues, and the next leg of the flight was canceled, but they had made arrangements for another airline to take them.
So they told everyone to go to baggage claim, get their bags, go to the next terminal over, and check back in.
He did so, and the cops arrested him as he was declaring it to the TSA.

I don't remember the details of how long he was in jail, how much it cost, etc, but it seems he got convicted but then got it overturned on appeal, and never got his gun back.

So, taking a gun anywhere near NJ is asking for your life to be taken from you!
You are less likely to be killed by bad guys... Lol

(and that story does remind me of a trick if you are flying with valuable equipment or goods that you have to check, and you don't want them stolen. As long as you aren't flying near NJ, pack them in a strong hardside suitcase, and have a gun declared in it. It can just be a flare gun from Walmart, it just has to be a firearm.
Then you are required to have non-TSA approved padlocks, so only you can open the case. If it needs to be screened, they will bring it to you to open, and the law forbids you from handing over the key.
I know a guy who travels to hacker conventions and computer shows with suitcases full of computers, and he has one gun checked in each suitcase lol)

I've only been trucking for 6 years but I haven't seen or heard of much violence against truckers in that time. There have been a couple of isolated murders of truckers parked in bad areas, but it is so rare like winning the lottery. My theory is that since 2008 Great Recession, you had a ton of people coming from 'regular' walks of life to trucking and didn't want to see the lot lizards, dope pushers and trruck jacking miscreants of old.

Certain states like Maryland, NJ, NY etc totally ban my ammunition and magazine capacity at least one bans my specific gun. So I don't bother traveling there.

Come to think on it, I don't travel much anymore Ive done all that for 30 plus years. That's plenty.

If you live in a free state, you get to a point that you can enjoy your 2nd Amendment and use the 1st to tell us all how you like it.

What is really a thought I have had is this... consider the following theory.

If we are a Union, these 50 United States, then there should be NO state able to say you cannot carry this or that into it's borders. There should be no state or city able to say no you cannot have these bullets or guns or whatever it may be. We should be a one nation, one people one law.

But that is not going to happen. Not any time soon. We were at one time in our history and I guess we pissed that away.

Exactly. When you look at these regulations on the books about using force and deadly force, you have to remember that they may be a defense to CRIMINAL prosecution, but that doesn't mean you won't be arrested and have to go to court, and it also means you can be held accountable in CIVIL court! Be careful out there guys!
