It's not worth a ####... but I won't risk my dog getting sent to jail if the cops should happen to find it first. I have other means of protection should the need arise. And I'm a bit more careful about setting foot outside the truck when I'm in a "fish-in-a-barrel" zone.

Hi! I'm new to the board and trucking. I started a thread today and have gathered some good info. Chime in on it if possible.

On the gun issue, I own many firearms and this will be my first time not being able to carry. People that carry regularly feel rather naked without the guns.

If I were running local in my gun friendly state of Tennesse, maybe through states where my hand gun carry permit allows, are there no companies that allow it? Seems rather odd to me that they would strip a civilian of their second amendment right. Also, how does this apply if you're an o/o?

    TIA.

When an employer makes a rule that you can't plaster your truck with political signs, or drive naked, or any of the other rights we have, that may not be conducive to their business model, it isn't "stripping" anybody of anything, any more than a dress code, or requiring a CDL!

You make a choice when you take a job to work within the rules of that employer, no matter how stupid they seem to be to you.
And you do have the option of protesting the rules, trying to get them changed, and they have the option of disciplining you! Lol
Or you can find another job.

As far as rules not to carry a gun, that just is good business sense, because there are a lot of places out there that would not let you on the property with a gun, or you would be breaking the law, either local law, or stuff like being on a school property or the like. Ports and military bases are some other places that have problems with private guns.

So unless you get to pick your own loads, or you are with a small regional place with an understanding owner, you become a burden if you can't go to where they need you, because you have a gun.

So look around for a place you can work, and study up on interstate carry, and what types of places ban guns.

Well I get that, and not to get into a political or philosophical debate, none of those things you mentioned (being naked, having political signs etc) are a right. They would be defined as a privilege (if so). The gun is a right, by birth. Being naked and having a political sign is not in the constitution of the United States. I also understand in someone else's vehicle, moving state to state, it's got a different standard.

Having said that I always obey the law with my firearms. If a employer says no, it's no. No matter how stupid it is (or smart if someone feels that way).

I was just wondering if there were actually employers that might be gun friendly and allow as long as it's a gun friendly state and local. You pretty much answered it.

Well. Some employers are gun friendly. Actually American Friendly. But... bottom line it's a no no to be armed in the truck. Thier truck. If you want to buy one or 50 or 1000 trucks and allow guns.. and can find a insurance carrier... and stay within law in all levels from Local everywhere you go through all the states and federal law... eh.

Im not very good talking about gun stuff. I do a great deal of reading and carry USCCA insurance in addition to the material offered by them. Plus Israeli and American training is common where possible here in Arkansas, it's a touch above ordinary plinking with a eye towards terrorism. Im no ######, but I do like battle and have a taste for it. But that is not why I carry.

Times have changed as you already know since 2001. And we make do with what we can. The best we can. I will never again be sheep going into the lions den as it were with just a cup of coffee and a few hundred in cash on me.. plus a small knife. It's suicide.

I know that a lot of pro-gun people focus on the 2nd Ammendment, but have you ever heard of the 1st Ammendment? Lol

It is the Right to free speech, such as political signs on the truck, or driving naked (yes, nudity is often part of Free Speech by some crazy people... *shakes head)

The right to have a gun isn't in the Constitution either, but it was the second Right they added in the Bill of Rights, right after Free Speech ;)

That depends on where you are parked while asleep and the situation. There is a serious fallacy going on in the trucking world about being awoken by law enforcement. Most cops don't give a tinkers #### about mr truck driver and will leave you alone even if you are parked illegally on public property or illegally on private property. By illegally on private property I mean ignoring a no parking sign because Johnny Outlaw (by the way there is a real Trucker Named Johnny Outlaw.) has parked there. However I remember being at the TA Truck stop a few miles north of Indy back in 2010 I think it was, when the local Sheriff was looking for a runaway that a deputy actually seen get inside a truck a few minutes before. I am not sure what happened or why but several Truckers got woke up that night yours truly being one of them. The Sheriffs dept never found that runaway that night. Another time I was parked bobtail in the truck stop where the Flying J is now in Effingham I can not remember that places name. I made the mistake of pulling all the way in the parking place and another driver pulled in and cut my access off. I tried 3 times to get that moron to move and all 3 times I got i'm on my break leave me the hell alone. After the 3rd time I walked in went to the fuel desk and asked the girl working the fuel desk to call the cops. About 10 minutes later here come 2 cars and I asked them to help me get that moron moved. They woke him up and he told them he was on his break. The one cop looked at me and winked and called for a wrecker. By this time the night manager of the truck stop was there and informed the cops he wanted the driver to leave the property. It got a bit intense but the driver got up and left. To this day I have no idea where he went, and don't care. My main point in all of this is just because you are asleep or on your ten don't give you the right to be a ####### and it can get you in serious trouble on public or private property.
