Hi all, former Steven driver here. Really enjoy keeping up with all your trials and tribulations,. Brings back a lot of good and bad memories lol. I moved on to much better money in 2011 but, I do miss all the highs and lows that u guys post on here.
Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
Welp here we are in Dodge City. Bobtail. Here is my question for you guys...
If you drop an empty trailer, and make an impromptu loaded trailer count on the way in, and do not have access to toes due to workboot requirements but know there are more than ten, should you call BULL before or after you and the other 6 bobtail Stevens tractors are told there are no loads ready?
Sure seems to me that the meat guy who did the meat class in OR2 may have not been entirely forthcoming.
Or is bribery to get the good loads back in practice?
Please note, the above message is not angry or upset or meant to insult the hard working employees at dispatch, I am just feeling snarky and sarcastic. If it lights a fire and gets us rolling I surely wont complain.
Yall stay safe! -
The trailers may be loaded, but the meat has not passed the inspection, and the government agent has not signed off on the paperwork. And meat plants use the trailers for storage, they put meat in the trailer, pull it from the door, load other trailers, put that trailer back in the door, and finish loading it, when the rest of the product is available.
Stevens has NO control over when the loads are ready, and can only pass on the information that the plant has provided. Dodge city will not let you leave if the trailer is warm... so they let it set running for hours, to get the temp down.Emulsified Thanks this. -
And that is why I love this thread, all the backside information I knew nothing about that helps me understand what can delay product. Sorta puts me neatly in my place lol.
Thanks TLeaHeart, I sincerely appreciate it! -
Flue, a quick lesson on the mentality of dispatchers . . .
How many dispatchers does it take to change a light bulb? . . . .
Just one, . . . they hold it and then wait for the world to revolve around them.flue Thanks this. -
There's a zinger! -
every one question when you are training can you request a trainer if you know one?

T is dead on ad to the reason. On many occasions I get to one of the plants I pull for and find several loaded trailers only to be told there are no loads available. Most common reason being that are on hold, the meat inspector hasn't signed to release them yet. And it gets aggravating to visit a plant multiple times in a day and see those loaded trailers only to be told none of them have been released...flue Thanks this. -
*Except the Stevens night & weekend crew it takes more people because of the repowers, (buy the bulb - repower, open the box - repower, find a ladder - repower . . . ) and they wouldn't attempt such a task unless wearing a tux.flue and Corporal_Clegg Thank this.
