Had a head scratcher today. Get a call from my DM about a repower, which I accept. Dude arrives at the TS, and we start trading paperwork. I ask him for a scale ticket.
"I didn't scale it. I got it on the yard. It's from Laredo."
"Ok... what's that got to do with anything? How many weigh stations are open between Laredo and Dallas?"
"I dunno."
"Usually none. And you are gonna just trust that whoever picked it up actually scaled it before leaving?"
Silence. He looks confused.
So I tell him to scale it there.
"I ain't got no cash."
"Fine. Wait here. I'll scale it."
At this point I have both bills, and he's getting mad.
I scale it, and all is well. I give him the bills to his new load, and he snatches them from my hand. He starts looking at me like I tried to seduce his girlfriend...
"Was it overweight?"
"No. It's good."
"So you just wasted my time?"
"No, because I wasn't gonna take it if it was overweight, and you should have scaled it yourself. Now if DOT says it's overweigh, my butt's covered by CAT Scale."
"What the #### ever, man."
Ok... -_-

Should have told him you were covering his ### because if it had been overweight he would have been stuck with an illegal load... and then told him he's welcome.

Had a good one yesterday, got set up on a repower headed to colorado, original destination casa grande az, initially agreed to the repower even though I was losing 400 miles as I didnt want to be stuck in casa grande for a reset. Got to the t/s to do the repower and right off the bat dude tells me its got a bad tire but I was gonna get it fixed but he shop closed early. WTF you are sitting at loves in Amarillo which also is right across from the TA Now I know TA dont close at all so all ready we are starting to feed BS. I look at the brakes and lo and behold guess what 4 bad sets. Called the guy to the back of the trailer, did ya even look at the brakes? He tucks his tail between his legs and says yes. At this point I was like oh heck to the no I am not gonna take this. I am rired of fixing other peoples crap. said thanks but no thanks told him how inconsiderate it is to expect someone else to fix his crap and I left. I went over to the TA to get a service done on my tractor and watched him roll off and up I 40 without fixing what was wrong. Yeah his choice, but also his ticket if he gets caught. Once again NO ACCOUNTABILITY for drivers that leave crap for others to fix. SMH

I have said it many times: When doing a swap, never give the other driver the bills until AFTER you've scaled it and done a PTI.
If it's overweight, bad brakes, tires or out of fuel and needing to be prime, give him back his bills and take your load back.
You cannot believe the number of calls I get from drivers stuck with an overweight load because the previous driver never scaled it or even better...scaled it, set the tandems around the 8th hole know it will be repowered before Cali..."hey it was legal for me!"
Same thing goes for bad tires, missing license plates, TKs coded out and warm loads.Corporal_Clegg and Rattlebunny Thank this. -
A lot of drivers it seems do a PTU rather than a PTI.
What's that you ask? Pick Trailer Up!Corporal_Clegg and Emulsified Thank this. -

Well here I sit in Casa Grande, waiting for my appointment. Am hearing theres no freight running out of here and my told me they been deadheading people from here to Laredo. Guess will wait n see what happens prolly headed for a reset if Iant catch a repower to finish my week out.

Crazy...you just can't win.
on tuesday (my last day) we were dead for freight out of Laredo, but JBS in Phoenix was doing ok.
If you're still hanging around on saturday, I'll see what I can do to find you another repower with a bald tire and bad brakes.
Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
I feel you brother... I am in Cheyenne waiting on an empty along with 4 or 5 others.
The Prima Donna showed up about an hour ago. He left Granite City yesterday morning ahead of me. He spent the night in Iowa, I spent it at the Lexington Walmart. I got here this morning, dropped, went the TK had a minor fix done to the APU and came to the flying J. Have been here 4 hrs when he showed up. I already spoke to Walmart, no trailers until late tonight. Me I plan on checking late tonight. He said he is good until morning because he expects a long wait in Lexington anyway... not hard to believe he is used to that. -
If your loading out of garden city area or can get dispatched there you might be able to grab something at Voyager Denver or target pueblo for an empty. dunno if this is cool by dispatch or not but it has been done lol
