Stevens Transport to start with?

When husband was looking at companies a few months ago Stevens was starting at 32 cpm (22 + 10 cpm per diem)

 

Where do you live? If you're in Texas, I'd go with Stevens and haul Tanks. Water tanks in north Texas, frac sand in the south. APU, Inverters, 13 speed. Water is home daily, sand is 3 out and 1 home, paying 26% of the load to start.

 

There's NO reason to work for those lousy wages even as a rookie driver. There are a ton of companies you can look into, why settle for ####### wages and a slow truck? Not everyone has to go work OTR to start and especially for a crappy mega, do your homework and look around thoroughly.

we looked at Stevens when my husband was in school because we heard they had excellent training. The pay structure was a real turn off though. We looked at smaller company's and found some that offer great training and good pay and none of the per diem crap.

 

In my whole life. Everyone has always expected a ministry out of me. Employers, customers, employees I had to work with. They do it because they get away with it. Don't let them get away with it.

 

32 cents per mile? To drive crap trucks? And yank a box?

I can't believe people are that dumb to work for megas that pay crap. Work at McDonalds and make more money. Jesus wept

 

Stevens is a good company to learn at. They do pay less than most, but they offer a lot of support for new drivers, and that can be priceless when the poop hits the spinning blades.

I do not know the details on their contracts, since I got my CDL from a different school. But if you get a loan from them to do CDL classes, expect a contract.

In short, I recommend Stevens for new drivers. But after six months or a year, move on.

Do not allow them to put you in a lease truck. You do not know enough about the business as a new driver to make a lease work. They will pester you about it constantly. Politely refuse.

I have NEVER spoken to a happy Stevens lease operator who was not *ALSO* a trainer. They might exist, but i worked there 14 months, and never found one.
