Good starter company for somebody straight out of school looking to get quality training. They do lots of behind the wheel training some of the best in the country. The pay is low but most people who get on with the super carriers like Swift, JB, Stevens..etc are just looking to get the experience so you can move on to a better paying job after your 1 or 2 years. Don't expect much from ANY of these companies as they are good starter companies. If you're trying to make a decision on which company to go to if you're a new trucker...any of the big ones are fine. The pay is all similar and they'll treat you similar. So the best advice I can give you is to just pick one. Probably the one with a terminal closest to you to cut down on some of your driving time to and from work. That'll be nice in the long run.

There is post about Stevens over on the bad trucking column. Gotta say that for all the gripes, Stevens is a good company to learn from. They dont do everything right, but what they do right they do really well at. Just dont expect to get home lol.

Heard the same out on the road. Trucks look good. Not a bad company if you are a new guy. Not getting home is part of getting the experience to move on to better pay. Reefer experience is a plus rather than straight dry van down the road as well. Only you can make that decision. Good luck on finding super pay and great home time with the same company right off the bat.

Well I am slowly getting over the fact that Im not going to get 40 cpm until I get experience, much like how like the army wont send you to delta force until youve put a little time in. Every truck has an APU and the miles are good though,

Agree with the pay but depending on how much car and home you own, you can get by right out of the gate. As for the hometime I disagree. I've never stayed out longer than 12 days...ever. Stevens and Melton are the only two companies I know of that keep you out for months at a time. Just because a driver is new doesn't mean they can't have a life away from work.newlife1966 Thanks this.
