I wasn't referring to the business aspect of it. 3 months out for some people isn't an option. Someone thinking about a new career change should know that 3 months out is a possibility.

Think about it! How many stories does one have to read and hear of students beingtaken advantage of? Yet, there are those who still allow themselves to be taken in by all the lies OTR companies feed you. I'll be honest to you. I got a pre-hire to work for werner enterprises. They call me just about everyday on the phone. I don't answer. At present I'm employed not in trucking but elsewehere. I don't like my job but they don't use me the way some OTR's do people. I get sick leave, annual leave, FMLA, Paid holidays, Cola, etc. I love my job just I don't like the office politics. Some managers can be expletive... Words can't describe them. Alot of them really don't know the job and it's requirements. They make rules up as they go from day to day. Yes, I've been written up many, many, many, many times. The good things about this job is we are unionized. Of course unions aren't the best thing since sliced bread. But, when I started working for said company I got raises in accordance with the union contract the first week of employment. I didn't have to wait for months even years to get union raises. Of course I don't agree with the union on every issue. But were else can you start a job no experience at over $19.00 per hours. I kid you not. The bad side of things is, the longer you been at company the less you make. example: Senior man 35 years top pay 53,000K with out Overtime. New member: less than 5 years 38,000K per year. Now, they both get the same number of paid holidays, time 40 hours per week, sick and annual leave. What is the difference? There's none, really none. The company would rather give the new employee more hours than senior or more experienced employee. Why? They make about the same pay rate. As with all jobs, companies seem to want to phase out the senior people.

There is no secret about Stevens and never has been. They make their money having rookies drive their trucks while paying them peanuts. Their school is good, after school training is good, but they have no interest in you after your 1st year so move on. Now, does everyone understand Stevens?

I think its a great trade off myself from the research I have done there is no easier way to start a trucking career than with one of the so called #### companies. People meed to think of this as a career and know that after a year or two they can get the type of job they want. For example I tried my hand in the security industry and there were some really good payin jobs out there but you needed 1 to 5 years exp.

I agree, for a new driver Stevens will give you some great training and set you straight on the reefer biz. After a year, if your record is clean most anyone will hire you.

miles miles miles is the key yes you are going to be out for a long time but it will all be good when your bills are paid and your credit is good and you can get your own truck and move on from there... i have a 2 year plan and its a lot better than any other 2 year plan with an comp... its all in what you make it guys...
