    Unhook, drive to a store. Still stuck? Malls usually have some supply of salt( for their customer) ask. Been in your shoes... I eventually found salt, and rock my truck out

    The store and mall both claim they are out of salt. At this point I may have to rule out finding salt anywhere as another employee looked for hours last night and couldn't find any at any stores within 25 miles.

    I may try that, looking at maps and asking has been fruitful if I can go 2-4 miles out. (Not a bad walk, and for that I'm mostly prepared, but anything that isn't a road is a mess.). I'll have to pull the sledgehammer out again though, another driver who did get out left an ice pile right where one of my landing gear legs should touch the ground. It'd tilt and potentially flip otherwise.

    I don't drive van but, i would've never backed in there…customers responsibility to keep the dock area acceptable for the driver...

    If you can find some lamp oil or something flamable you could try that. Had to thaw my 5th wheel the other night with ether.

    If you can get your hands on bottles of bleach it will melt the ice just like alcohol.

    Youre right about that. I'm not happy about it but I told my dispatcher the conditions prior to pulling in and was told to call if I got stuck.

    Were I an o/o, I wouldn't have backed in unless it was treated OR gotten a signed statement from management and higher that they'd pay for my tow bill. But SNI is footing this one.

    No luck inside the mall, I'm going to try Kanas' tip about windshield wiper fluid and go from there.

    scour the parking lot for a pick-up (one with a rebel flag in the back window or a smoke stack up through the bed and 8 foot cb antennas on both mirrors and one of those fake nut sacks hanging from the trailer hitch prefferably). wait for driver of said pick-up. offer a few bucks for him or her to try to pull you out. it shouldn't take much of a tug for you to get rolling. I was in a similar situation a month or so ago. just a little bump allowed me to get up out of the worn spots from spinning and I was out and on my way... good luck driver.

    Thank you all for the input, I'll thank everyone once I'm out of here.

    Unfortunately windshield fluid didn't give enough kick. Though I only had a gallon of it; it is something to keep in mind though for anyone else.

    Of the things I tried, that one got me a foot up the drive until the ice caught hold again and I slipped back down...

    Also, Frank, that's the best description of a redneck mother****** I've heard yet. Haha! I'll be looking for one as I walk to two places nearby that may have something useful.

    Engage the power divider and burn it down to the pavement.:biggrin_2559: This may sound silly, but are your trailer brakes frozen or not releasing? If you do burn it down to the pavement, you may be able to move a couple inches, then roll back and use that bare cement to get a little start. I've done it.
    Find the maintenance dept. at the mall. They've got to have some salt for the walks.
