This method will work for everyone. Turn on your phone video camera and place it behind the trailer. Don’t forget to also check your truck brake lights and reverse light.

I guess it depends on the truck but in my peterbilt I just pull the hand valve, it stays engaged while I walk back and check my lights. I know some trucks won't let the hand valve stay engaged without keeping pressure on it though

when i worked at night and parked up against the loading docks, i could see the reflection off the building

during daytime hours, i'd pull down on the hand brake, but if it was spring loaded, i'd bungy cord it.

    simple enough.

another way, and it works, is apply the brakes, jump out, run to the back and check.

this however DOES NOT WORK, if you weigh about 600 pounds and need a crow bar to get out from under the steering wheel....:biggrin_25522:

Don't know, with my Pete I had a switch to disconnect the brake lights so cops going the other way wouldn't see me hit my brakes,,, seriously, and I try to answer all questions, but this one is kinda dumb, sorry.

I have something I wedge in between the seat and the brake pedal. Pedal down hard enough to put at least 90 lb pressure on the brakes. That way I can usually hear if I have an air leak in the system as well as being able to check the lights.
Started doing that way back when after a dot wrote me up for an air leak at the glad hand. Have also caught brake chambers.

The newer kenworths have a light check switch. Flip the switch and it cycles thru all lights. 4 way brakes turn signal. High and low beams and reverse. I just check them when its dark and use my mirrors

We have one of those large, convex mirrors fixed to a column in the yard. Pull up to the stop point and check your lights in the mirror. Someone had a great idea. Put this one in your suggestion box. You just might win a Whopper.
