Can't teach what you don't know.

Nothing against the mentors who are doing their best, but when some of them have less than a year experience how can they teach 'the finer skills' they have yet to acquire?

Swift like so many other carriers hire newbies to be trainers, they should have safety conscious veterans to be trainers.I'll bet many of the trainers don't have a good safety record but yet they still hire them to train.Trainers may not be plentiful with Swift but that's just too bad, safety should always come first. That's spose to be the name of the game isn't it?But we all know it isn't.

I was thinking about coming back to Swift to be a Mentor. I could teach these drivers advanced safety techniques which have served me well over the short time I've been out here.

Too many people are horrible drivers on the road (careless car drivers), put them behind the wheel of a CMV? Can't correct careless.

I fear that's especially true nowadays. No offense to anyone but we have many new people in the industry who don't really want to be here. For many reasons (bottom fell out of their old job, overqualified, etc) they took up trucking.

I think the people that feel they are over qualified are sitting in cubicles handing out load assignments. IMO though, those are the folks that aren't qualified to walk and chew gum at the same time.
