You will have to wait on a truck that is available at whatever your terminal is. from my understanding and I was told this as well you cannot go to another terminal to get a truck.
I was trying to get one out of Lancaster where I did my orientation but my home terminal was Houston. they said no you got to go to Houston.

So, here is another update.
I did my driving test today and I have to say I did poorly. I caught two curbs with the trailer tamdems on right turns and missed a double turn lane and turned from the inside lane. I did really well on the back though. It's been almost 3 years since I have sat in a truck so maybe its not all that bad but I am guessing I'll have some hefty mentor time to get through. Other than that orientation has been good. Did log class today, which was the most helpful thing they put out to the class thus far.
I'm nervous about what they will say tomorrow about the drive test. I hope I don't have to do the full six weeks with a mentor, but I will if that is what they want. I am also worried that they will try to drip my starting pay from experienced to non-experienced since I did so poorly on the test. If that happens I'm not sure I'll be able to stay.
Well wish me luck.scottied67 Thanks this. -
It took me a little over a week to get a truck after leaving my mentors truck. My understanding is each terminal has its own pool of trucks and you will get one from that pool. Only way they would send you elsewhere is if one of their trucks was at a different terminal or abandoned somewhere. Swift seems to have each terminal set up as a semi-independent entity each with their own slightly different way of doing things.

Well, orientation ended yesterday, and I got my code and mentor today. I will be leaving to go out on his truck at 3pm mountain time.
As for the drive test I did score low enough that I will have to do the full 240 hours of training, and I will start at the base rate for new hires without experience. It crossed my mind to quit and go somewhere else so that I could possibly start at a higher pay rate but, I am going to stick with Swift and get hardheaded about it. I plan to learn as much as I can from my mentor as he is an O/O and that is where I eventually want to be. And when I get my own truck I will work as hard as I can to get to the platinum/diamond level as quickly as possible and next year at this time look really hard at becoming a L/O.
Good luck to every one here, maybe I'll see you out on the road.tazaaa, inkeper and scottied67 Thank this. -
Look, a lease operator is lucky to make up to $0.40 per mile depending on how well they run their business, probably less than that. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, those high payments have to end sometime. I just saw 2 L/O trucks in the terminal here all chromed out including chrome spinners on the drives lol if that tells you how successful a driver could be doing this. -
Sorry to hear about the road test results Tiger. Good luck with the training, maybe I'll see you out here somewhere.
