It's a straight forward matter of physics: the further up your tandems are, the easier it is to negotiate turns. To not do this is folly.

Ok you missed my point. My point was many people drive around every day with trailers and configurations that don’t have the ability to suck the tandems up to make it “easier” and somehow we all aren’t out running over stuff. The driver should’ve been more aware and been paying attention to his trailer and stopped before he got to that point.

Slightly off-topic, but when I'm making right turns at smaller intersections (think little Texas towns), I have to take both lanes before I turn, and then I can barely squeak by the cars in the lane I'm trying to turn into without jumping the curb. And sometimes I still jump it. How do you manage in such a long wheelbase truck? Reason I'm asking, is because I want to step up to a larger Western Star. My current wheelbase is 230", and I'm really not sure I'm ready for it. Especially in the NE. I almost get myself into a bind daily up there with my little truck as it is.

Yes. My last load before I quit was going there. Literally 0 spots to drop the trailer and the guard wanted to get pissy and said something along the lines of “I don’t care not my job to find you a spot” so I dropped it where I was at, by the guard shack.
