As has been said, all mentors are different so their expectations are going to be different, but they will alll have the same basic expectations:

    Shut up and listen
Operate the vehicle in a safe manner at all times
When you are the driver, you do the work, including dealing with shippers/receivers and couple/uncoupling the trailer
ASK QUESTIONS. There are no stupid questions. If you honestly don't know, ask.
The mentor will fill you in on all the basic rules. You will be expected to follow them.

My mentor was out of the Columbus terminal, which is also my terminal. Easy going, fun loving guy, but when it came to the truck, he was all business. He made learning fun, which is important. I've heard some mentors are more like drill seargents or even tyrants. You gotta take your chances. If you don't get along with him, request another mentor.

No, the medical card they give you will be the one you use after orientation, unless things have changed when I went through Millington.

hay guys thats good advise, i'm not travling 700miles to party anyways i'm going to learn how to drive bigrigs absolutley no partying at all only trucking school learning, bigmike you are right if you cant go 3weeks without having a drink then this career move is not for those who want to party party all the time, and if you can pass a drugtest before you get to school and fail the one they give at school then your definatly doing something wrong,

When i start class on june 14 (assuming i pass there dot physical my blood pressure is kind of unperdictable) since i will be able to return to my home everyday i will wright about class each day so that futuer studance can get an acurate ideal of what the acadamy is like. Just finished my 6 weeks today (actually was closer to 7 weeks). They sent a msg on Qcom about students who have 240 hours driving can test out. That could be done in about 4 and a half weeks of hard driving. The mentors don't like it because remember the 1st week out the student doesn't drive much so the trainer is like on solo pay. Where they really make their money is about 3rd thru 6 we week where the trainee can drive 10 hours as well as the trainer doing his 10 hours. We did that our last couple of weeks when we hooked up on a dedicated Fresno CA to Spokane WA or Seattle WA 1000 miles a day turn and burn. It was tough, Eat sleep drive fuel rinse repeat, no showers, buy enough food to eat on the truck bathroom breaks for fuel or coffee thermos refueling only lol

Jeremy, with any luck I'll be doing my 'restart' on that date as well hope to see ya there. As far as your unpredictable blood pressure, couple of pointers.
No coffee that morning, or anything with caffeine for that matter. If you smoke and can stand it try not to prior to that morning, or have one or two real early when you get up and don't burn one prior to going in. The bp is the first thing they do so after that you can get a soda or coffee. That also assists in the 'p' test which follows :biggrin_255:
