If you have previous flat exp you fall into the grey area where you aren't green enough to go out with a mentor, but you haven't proven to swift that you're a good driver. So you'd have to pull vans for swift for 6 months so they can evaluate you. Then you would become eligible for what they call the "5 day class".

gotch ya, cool so since I have been with them it will be a 5 day class and then on my own....nice, and no I don't have any securement training, so I am a newbie, guess my first runs will be real slow, but I'm old and slow and need the exercise :)

Dear Friends: I am new to trucking. Am going to start Swift School May 22, 2017. Am wondering the advantages of Flatbed over Van? Anyone care to share? Thanks.

Start with van. 3-6 months. Earn a spot in flatbed work after you can drive.

    Swift School is an oxymoron.

    Luck

Swift runs from SC to IN to Laredo with their flats. If you live in that triangle, you will have a good time. Their flatbed program isn't bad. It's a start. Just a start. So don't go buying Swift jackets and getting Swift tattoos and bragging about how Swift KoolAid tastes better than Maverick and TMC KoolAid.
Any more details needed, see Mr @Lepton1 .

"Hey Six, how do their flats compare with their vans?"

Take any bottom feeder van company that hires rookies right out of school and put a different sticker on the truck. Bone stock, generic, crap down your neck and make you like it POS company. That's van driving for you. They all suck.

What's the difference between the bottom feeder flats and the higher end flats?

Less handholding. It's you and the truck, "figure it out, driver...can't help you, but good luck." And that's the way it should be.
