    The first time I ran into a situation with a truck that seemed pretty dicey to me, and it was at Swift, was when a customer in Utah wanted me to drive around the back of the building to unload through about 2ft of snow and I was sure I was going to get stuck. I called my DSM who was Kent Oberhelman, and I quote the reply he gave me "You are the Captain of your ship, if it dosn't look safe to you don't do it and call me back if you have a problem with them"

    The US Marshals actually have quite more power than the previous post suggested but they do not usually go to any lengths to use it. As the nations oldest law enforcement branch they can take over any investigation on a state or federal level and are the only law enforcement branch with jurisdiction over the entire US to apprehend criminals or serve warrants including Indian Reservations which are off limits to all other law enforcement. The nearest thing to them on a state level are the Texas Rangers for reference.

    I have been with swift for 8 months now, and am fairly happy overall. I drove for Apple and Commercial Lovelace 30 years ago, and then stopped. Maintained my cdl all thise years, and went back to driving due to the economy. I was limited in my choices because of lack of recent experience. I looked at all the big training companies, and chose swift. They had good orientation. My dm is a pretty good guy ( I drive out of the Manteno,IL terminal). I started OTR of course, but was not making enough money. Told my dm I could do as well staying at home and sitting on a chair saying, "Welcome to Walmart.". He laughed and said he would see what he could do. I was at the terminal at the time and supposed to pull out @ 8AM. He called me in at 6:30, put a paper down on the table, told me to read and then sign. I figured he was terminating me. It was a dedicated route agreement, which they rarely give to new drivers. He said it looked like I could handle it. Been running it ever since with 25-2800 miles every week. They have worked on my truck whenever I have complained about a problem. Overall, it has been a very good experience. Could just be I have a good dm, but I'm now considering going O/O with them. If you need experience, there are a lot of worse companies to start with.

    I work for them as well. was rough in the beginning but over-all I am happy!

    What I don't understand is if you were in Lolo Montana, why did you call the New Mexico Hiway Patrol? Just wondering.

    Smdh..... People still actually believe the US Marshall is going to come to the rescue for the driver?? Lol. Then again I've heard some pretty insane lunch-counter fables about that. Especially the drivers who claim they are "sovereign citizens" and because they are only "traveling" on a "right of way" they don't need a license, or the one who is also a "lawyer" because he read a dictionary from beginning to end.
