For best results you'll need a very long antenna on that truck. Preferably as close to 81 inches as possible.
The 7-foot skip shooter seems to be the most efficient solution for the least amount of money, although you could make your own. -
I've got these: TRAM Model TBC-6 Bigcat
Which the specs say has a 6" shaft with 53" steel tapered wire and a 3" wide coil. The wire is about 4" into the shaft so I'm at like 55" height roughly I guess. Still not enough huh? -
Taller is always (relatively) better. Tall as possible for a mobile rig means the usual height restriction (13’ 5”).
Placement is the other. Potentially bigger as a subject of concern.
Both are problems with tractors.
The construction materials, and the genuinely poor efforts by the factory in design and execution discourage most drivers.
Mistakes seem expensive (they add up). Unlike cell phones where the profits keep rolling in (thus ensuring gear & infrastructure), CB is a one time purchase (where the external performance factors are favorable). No revenue stream.
Deplorables are disposable. Doesn’t matter “they” need a CB as a business (safety) tool.
And radio theory is a matter of study. Of instruction. One has to have intent , and some ability to deal with “failed” attempts (where the desired result is of a fairly high standard).
Divorce, crappy schools and extra low expectations of today’s boys doesn’t lead to as much interest in amateur radio — a huge disconnect in our society from three generations ago — and with truckers, it seems easier to most to ignore all but basic one-mile range set ups.
A dearth of good honest techs is no help either. And the equipment is none too great.
Let the Internet provide what it can.
Be patient and persevere. It’ll pay off handsomely.
CB = Constantly Buying.
There’ll come a point it won’t seem that way. Stick with advice you can test, and consider acquiring the tools to do that.Roteck Thanks this. -
The tram tbc-6 antennas aren’t that great for your application. Talk to RPC about his setup, you won’t be disappointed.

There's the problem! Every KW T660, 680, & 880 I have ever had has needed new coax and a ground strap. Now Sometimes you will only here one side of the conversation due to distance or the power of the others radio. Check out my videos in this thread and there is nothing wrong with a Firestick on a 680 as long as it's at least 5'. I recently changed to left side antenna which I do have a more detailed install video of I just haven't uploaded it yet. The process is still the same as the right side like in my video.

How much is that antenna? Just the antenna not the mount. The bottom one looks like a Hustler which I wasn't impressed with. Where can I find the top one?Last edited: Jul 26, 2018

They're both the same antenna and almost twice as long as a hustler but 10 times heavier than the Hustler. Those are homemade but you can make your own

Like I know how to make an antenna. Dont know that I need it to be that much heavier. The Hustler constantly slapped the visor.
