Take your foot off the clutch while driving!

Not being smooth when floating really hurts nothing if you’re soft handed. People assume a little rake just eats one up and it really doesn’t. Now if you’re heavy handed I don’t want you around my truck even as a wash hand.

When I was coming up there was a few rules you didn’t break if you didn’t want an ### whoopin
Never rode the clutch
Only pushed the clutch all the way down to put in gear from a dead stop
Do not rest your hand on stick that’s why you have arm rest on seat
Never hit the throttle like your running Indy or throw the shifter from hole to hole
Gear down stay off your brakes (including Jake’s have a little decency) pay attention look ahead
Never curb your tires
head lights off 1st gear at low rpm in a lot.
Never judge a hand on his ride. You don’t know his circumstances
If they need help help them if you can’t get the hell outta the way so someone can

it’s a different place for sure

 

Maybe when you get some free time you would be willing to create a thread stating the facts you have to support your theory..
All I'am asking is that you let me know when you do because I won't miss it for the world ..

You are not the first person to mention this. In fact, from time to time I also used my left foot to brake like that. You are a professional driver that knows what you are doing. While I did not mention this exception in my comment I was talking more about the bad habits some people have learned when driving their POVs. I remember a near-fatal accident in the parking lot of the Quick Trip on I-85 southbound on the north side of Atlanta and an exit before I-285. What the cop told me was the person panicked and instead of hitting the brake they hit the gas with their left foot. Most likely it slipped off the brake pedal. In my lifetime I never owned a POV that had an automatic transmission. The only time I ever did was to drive my mom's car before she passed away. Most people that learned to drive on a manual or a manual is all they ever owned generally won't use their left foot to brake.

 

You know what. I will take the time to do this. I can only guess what the thread will turnout to be. But I will do this.

 

Great post, and list. And a little rake is possible with using the clutch. It is a non synchronized transmission. But we both know the types your talking about.

I've put as many 4-5 sliding clutch, and detent springs in a big hp O/O as fleet trucks. Those guys still brag about not wearing a clutch out.

 

Not using the clutch isn’t the what saves the most wear. Taking off in a gear low enough to get rolling with out pedaling it. Laugh if you want but it’s habit loaded or bobtail I start in the basement every time. I’ve seen em slipped every shift double clutching. Just like I know guys that rawhide their ####. I have never double clutched a day in my life. I’ve had exactly 3 transmissions built slide clutch and fork trouble is something they didn’t have.

You can tear up a ball bearing with a rubber hammer if you try. Or you can take care of your #### with a method that works for you. I promise you dumb ### bovine relocation specialist can be as sharp as any #### yankee ### steel hauler. The catch 22 in that? They can be every bit as dumb.

 

Well I'm not saying guys can't float gears with minimal wear. But I'll say most can't. And most don't. Bet yes, a few can.

 

This ^^^^^^ goes back to my original post ... I specifically said .. If you can't float through the gears you have no business drving a manuel transmissiin ... I didn't say a world about grind'n their way theough the gears
Next I've seen more people tear the f### outa clutchs and fransmissions by thinking they know how to double clutch stop & think for a miniute.. what are you doing when your double clutch'n ?
I sure hope you can find the time to start your thread about how double clutching is the only correct way to shift

I used the clutch switch all the time. My engine brake would kick on the second you took your foot off the throttle. Instead of turning it off and off with the switch every time I just left my foot on the clutch to take the play out and engage the switch. Used it to turn off the cruise too. I love that switch
