Life has balance. All good things have a cost. I discovered this at my age now when I went for my dot med card recert. After taking a full week off for the move , I get back to the shop in time to go to the clinic to get it done, it was late in the day, but I made it in. Turns out I have high blood pressure. I was given a 90 day clock to get it right. I think it was all the stress from moving and a recent gout flare up, which I took an antiinflamitory med, which I now discover bumps the Bp up. I'm going to get it checked at a Walmart or something in a day or two to see if it normalizes. If so, I'll go back for my full year.
Im freaking exhausted. What a week.

I think it was all the stress from moving and a recent gout flare up,

Maybe the bass you caught flared the gout? I've had it once and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Seems the list is long of things that will flare it - down to mushrooms and tomatoes. They use to call it the "rich man's disease".

I keep a bottle of old indomethacin with me just in case I get it again on the road. It's been years but I still remember the pain.

You are right about the gout. It is very painful. I get it every now and then and you talking about hurt. I have the same medicine indomethiacin or whatever it is called to help with it. If I catch it quick enough it does not bother me but if I don't catch the flare up quick enough I am in pain for a couple days. I have yet to figure what causes mine.

Gout flares are pretty much related to high uric acid buildup and we don't get rid of it fast enough. Dehydration can flare it too. My doc told me to basically avoid "red" food . Tomato , strawberries, red grapes , red meat. I try to do that , but it's hard to completely shut it out.

So I have experienced a few delays. Turns out I had a 3 month dot card I used a few years ago, and somehow that is haunting me. My current card is invalid. So I've been running to the company clinic rechecking bp all week. They kept reading 151/100 and no lower , even after getting on my meds and doc upping my meds all week, it still read high.
I went to my own Dr. Today, bp read 138/83. I was like, WTF?! Why can't they read it like that down there?
My DR said it's more than likely their stethoscope is inferior. Once they can't hear the beat, they mark it high.
My doc uses a cardiology scope and hears everything. So I'm going to go to MY clinic for my DOT card where it is connected to a hospital and use top line equipment . I'll be rolling Wednesday .

To the naysayers; my company is totally cool with where I'm getting my card, so long as they are registered. On top of that , being off so long, puts me in a deeper hole than expected.
My company is going to rework my lease so I'm not in a hole that deep and can be profitable first week back out . Updates to come.

I'm glad to hear your company is workin' with you.
It should interest your company that the b/p numbers measured by two different clinics don't match. Good thing you got a second opinion.
Do you think it was the meds finally kickin' in, or were you bein' prescribed meds you didn't need? I presume the company clinic doctors prescribed the meds? What happens when b/p meds are taken unnecessarily?

well while I was at the company clinic and read high I call my doc and he had me x2 my meds. I wonder how many drivers were DQed because of inferior equipment ?

No problem. I'm going to my clinic tomorrow at 1pm. Hitting my docs office beforehand to make sure I can pass it . Bp check.
