How fast are you going when making these turns if you're in 6th gear? You go that fast when taking your road test youll first get an ### chewing then an automatic fail. You're not driving a car,one day you turn too fast and you may just have a roll over. You should be in much lower gear depending how heavy your load is.You should start downshifting long before your turn so you're in the appropriate gear while making the turn.Don't worry about the traffic behind you just drive safe.Ive always made my turns in 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th depending how heavy the load is and how sharp the turn is.

We'll we have a empty trailer and 6th gear has no problems accelerating from more than like 3 or 4 mph. I slow down to at most 10 for turns.

YeAh 3-4 mph in 6th gear I'm basically crying for that tranny. At 10mph just stay at 5th in right turns.

You can go around a corner too slow 100 times but only once too fast

Start planning your turns long before making it.Some turns you can't make it safely no more then 5 mph like certain ramps. How do you manage to keep it going in 6th at 3 mph without the trk dieing on you?

Other than ramps and lefts at large intersections I can't imagine many turns I'd be taking in 7th with a 10 speed.

Think of all maneuvers as THREE parts.. screw up any of the three and you'll pay for it in one way or another

    1. Approach. this is where you SLOW DOWN and get into the proper gear for the maneuver and start visually searching and evaluating the maneuver. SCREW PEOPLE! Stop worrying about getting in people's way.. letting other people effect your decisions is a recipe for disaster! 6th or 7th gear or assuming such things is another disaster waiting to happen.
    2. the maneuver:SLOW DOWN... as you are already in the proper gear and SLOWED DOWN... you can watch all of things you should be watching AND not having to worry about gears and such (this is were automatics are instantly safer for drivers) watch your tractors path, watch and keep proper space, use ALL available space and make all your turns as "square" as possible.
    3. Exiting the maneuver: the tractor and trailer have cleared all obstacles and threats and you are beginning to straighten everything out... watch and ensure that you have CLEARED the entire maneuver and gotten your ENTIRE vehicle through it! Start to upshift and pick up speed..

    He's going for testing...

In a test, you get penalized for shifting during the turn. I like Fozzy's post. Let me add this... You screw up, you fail. So play it safe. Come up to a turn, downshift, downshift, shift to the basement and grab 5th gear and allow 5th to pull you through the turn. Straighten out and accelerate. You're not an expert driver, and you don't have to drive like one to pass. Go slower to make sure you pass.

Don't take a turn in 7th with a dmv evaluator lol

In regards to the real world I would only make turns in 7th gear if it was less than a 90 degree turn, hence, a 45 degree left or right turn. 90 degree turns should be done in no more than 6th

What gear your in is decided by each turn and the safe speed for it. Most of mine are in 6th or 5th, never made a real turn in 7th. Also, your in a truck, so you are ALWAYS impeding traffic. 4 wheelers can speed around you after the fact, don't worry about them becuase their not worried about us.
