So, Big BOy, after reading these replies you clearly know who the rookies are, which ones are obviously bad drivers and, most importantly, which ones here clearly have no clue as to what they are talking about.

There was a really good tandem thread couple weeks ago...Im an old schooler, and learned a few things, printed out a cool sideview picture of tandem/5th wheel conversions..

Even heard a cool phrase, "move your tandems toward the problem"
or wait, it was "move the weight towards the problem"..heck i forgot
Now i gotta look it up!!!

What's that got to do with flappy plastic junk being mounted on some trailers?

And here is the other end of the dumb spectrum. 53' trailer all the way back into Connecticut? Enjoy your ticket the first time you get caught.

    Funny^^^^

They put em all the way back so the forklift wont sink the trailer as much on the dock, then we hook up and move tandems up to take em to california...we have wore out pin holes!! The fine folks at the banning station now checkin us all the time for that...lol...have to carry bungee and vise grip for the troublesome pull handles that dont stay put

    Tired of it all...lol

Actually, CY is referrinf to trailer axles moved to the forward most position, not the fifth wheel.

But, you're right. What you described is another case of total stupidity.

CT is the only place I have been scaled running the NE and I got the bypass so no ticket. Good call though.

Personally I don't like the skirts. I don't believe inthe tech and they look ugly. But since they are there my feeble mind can accept the concept that the tandems all the way forward closer to the skirts, the air would pass around the wheels better than 5 feet further back where the air would tuck back under the trailer and the wheels catch a bunch of air and create drag.

I recall one time going through Wyoming, the high profile warning sign was out due to high winds. Being heavy I knew I was OK but what Idid was move the tendems all the way back to help anchor the tractor down and eliminate a pivot on the trailer itself. Go a couple hundred miles to get out of the wind and move the tandems back t owhere they were.

    Jerry12 Thanks this.
