Yea thats why I was wondering what this question was about.
Just seems like some companies take advantage of the situation but not sni. Which really sucks for new people.

Companies that operate trainers and trainees as a team operation are nothing more than meat grinder companies. All their using the trainee for is cheap miles. Steer clear and you’ll notice that most companies that don’t practice this will say so in bold letters on the glossy promotional material.

Thanks for the input. I've been away from the road for awhile, but I still remember the horrible training experience that I had with Stevens and I'm trying not make that mistake again. SNI has given me a conditional offer, so before I pull this trigger, I want to explore my options.

2 students up front “training” (each other?).. while the trainer is doing who knows what in the sleeper berth. No thanks.
Odin's Rabid Dog and Dumdriver Thank this. -
When I trained with sni we didnt have GPS we actually used a atlas and some people even wrote the exit numbers on the driver side window. Some people were also driving Diamond Reo. But the trainer paid for everything. Unlike the trainer now. Now a student is a extra mortgage payment. It would have been nice to drive one of the cab overs just for the experience.

Reading these kinds of threads make me want to cuss. At some fricking point a student is going to be alone anyway. In most if these team training situations the trainer has spent time up in the right seat. Most of the carriers want the students to have so many line 3 hours or miles to get upgraded. Honestly you are free to have any opinion you want to have on this. However it happens and it is going to keep happening. All I know is I rather have a student able to wake a trainer up before they do a bone head. This practice don't bother me near as much as a carrier putting a 6 month warrior in a training truck as a trainer. If that is not enough to send you screaming into the night I have no idea what will.

Oh absolutely moose. I think before even considering training someone should have at least two years experience driving. Even that is questionable, maybe four years would be better. But how does DOT come into play when it comes to having this as a requirement? Just like the ELD mandate. How about a mandate for a company trainer? Make that a requirement and fine the companies that abuse it.
