It's possibly true. If I believed in more conspiracy theories, or thought the US should practice political isolationism again, I might be able to call myself a Libertarian. But I can't, so i have to settle with calling myself a combination of economic conservative, and social liberal from the era when liberals thought free speech was a good thing.

Really non union wages grew more than union wages 1980 200? I'd like to see a link to that
as far a transport drivers wages how do you know what they make or their benefit package, if quiting your job and being rehired is a perk, what did you have to begin with?

Forget your hypotheticals. Truth of the matter is union companies in all industries outperform non union in pay, benefits, job security safety etc.
Unions have been losing their grip in trucking because of deregulation. Asnd that is why tge industry has gone to crap.
Companies started making billions from paying in many cases poverty wages.
Unions set the standard. They set the bar. And non union companies have to do the same to remain competitive in order to retain quality employees.

So if you enjoy working for no benefits, and it is better in the long run as you tried putting it, go right ahead. But don't impose your beliefs on everyone else and say no one should get benefits.

The union wage premium: Difficult to calculate, likely overblown

To your questions about my knowledge of Schneider Transport - I work for Schneider, I know the manager in charge of the Transport group, I know Transport druvers, and I've seen the breakdown in miles per truck per day on the road.

Deregulation happened 30 years ago, how have the Teamsters responded? What value are they giving the driver in return for his dues? Unions grew until the 1960s because they created value for themselves. The Union protected the worker from abuse, raised wages, and we're generally a force for good. Deregulation - or any change in an industry - shouldn't have caused such a large decline. Short term drop, yes, until the Union can evolve. How do you explain the wildcat strikes of the 1970s?
