That's true, and to each his own on that. I wasn't ready to retire then, and I'm not ready now. Another eleven years should be just about right for me.

Pays good, benefits are the best.
Drama, drama, drama. Top drivers think they're gods gift to the world. Refuse work when they actually have to do more than drive. Talk about each other. Shop stewards in bed with the terminal manager. Unions in bed with the terminal manager and company. Union needs these companies on a already failing and slowly demising pension and benefits plan. Need more info? -
The reality is that there is more to life than money. There comes a time, when money doesn't matter. No matter how much money. It just don't matter.
already gone, okiedokie, Farmerbob1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Once they get these driverless trucks rolling in
a couple years, we can all stand in the unemployment
line together and argue about who's gonna get the
Biggest unemployment check.
Union or nonunion. Lol.rolls canardly and ClassB Thank this. -

I seriously can't agree. There is too much to driving. The experts agree. That technology has a long ways to go before it can take over. It requires roads being done properly so the vehicle can navigate. All the little things a driver takes into account. The intuitiion, the guessing at what somebody is going to do. The technology can't do that. You know driving requires that.
Just saw a new bit on Saudi Arabia building a new city. Part of the reason is for autonomous vehicles. They said they can't tear everything up in their cities to make it right for autonomous vehicles.already gone Thanks this. -
And what happens when the pension fund runs dry? Look at both the transfers and miners union over the last 5 years. Benifits slashed, government bailouts, and still no gaurantee that the pension will be solvent in 10 years.
How do you respond to the epic levels of corruption and fraud in both public and private pension funds?
Once I factored in union dues I would be earning just about the same as I do now. Maybe a little more, it's hard to quantify benifits comparisons without all the documentation.
There's good reasons why the Teamsters went from representing over 70% of truck drivers to the small fraction they do today.Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -

far more funds are fully funded than there are underfunded, as far corruption, how many wall street bankers that handle you 401k or Roth IRA have gone to jail? Your 401k is only 1 "market correction" away from being insolvent.already gone Thanks this. -
They barely have driverless trains. And trains run on rails. It's a pipe dream like flying cars. At least in the near future.already gone Thanks this.

As far as if the pension will be there or not really isn’t a good debate. You can only plan for what information you have now.Its a shame most companies have done away with them and pushed most to 401k,and these companies didn’t do that for our benefit.Pensions are much better for you then 401ks are the pension costs companies more to fund.pension protect you from market risk, they protect you from out living your savings they are also easier to budget for retirement because you know what coming in each month.
already gone Thanks this.
