TESTING FRIDAY FOR CDL:

Call over to RE West. There is a third party tester there that I went with when I got my first CDL for hotshot rig. I'm drawing a blank on her name. If you do schedule with me, I can give you more details on the route. They also don't have a parallel park range (or at least they didn't) so it will be alley dock, if you care.

If she can't help you, I have another lead, but up towards Clarksville.

 

Her name is Amy over in Ashland & they no longer test anyone but their own people.. The school I got my certificate with used them as a 3rd party up until a couple weeks ago but they lost their contract with them just recently sooo that option is out. As far as Clarksville.. not sure your out there but I’ll definitely check into it!

 

yep, they like to ask you what the weight limit was on the sign you just passed….and don’t guess, as there may not have been a sign.

 

I used to do that when giving road tests.
“What’d that sign say?” “Uhh?” Isn’t a good answer.

In West Memphis I told a guy to take I-40, he was in center lane, but stayed straight on I-55.

Then we went to the good stuff.
Go to Pilot, and go around on back side and blindside back into a parking spot.
Wasn’t any trucks there but I picked one with a light pole on one side garbage can on the other.
Then we left and drove across to Memphis, on 55, we cut across Norris/Mallory, back to over 240, we went over to Airways, down S to Shelby, across to 78, all the way to 240 midtown, back across the new bridge and go blindside park again at pilot.

 

Shewwww I bet that was FUNN! Haha. I know Memphis like the back of my hand so I’m familiar with all the roads you were on but the only backing here in Nashville @ Hart Lane DMV will be on the pad… Straightline; Offset R & Alley.. Then I’ll drive.. but I’ll keep the signs in mind!! Thank you!!

 

April 15th is a stat holiday...check your dates.

 

It was actually the 15th with a 3rd party examiner down in Florida (the owner of my school owns a school down there as well & we were going to use his examiner there) - Our school was taking a group of us down there from TN to test because it’s so backed up here but the test site/school we were going to be using is no longer available for that weekend so we’ve been pushed back until May 12th now.

 

I think this has already been mentioned above/earlier...but (after you ace your CDL road test ) these people are in the Nashville area, and take novices:

No Experience? No problem! — R. E. West Transportation (rewest.com)

That might well be a great place to do flatbed, if that's what you decide on, later.

Bone up on as much info/wisdom as you can on this Forum--that first year to 18 months as a trucker is tough; the wash-out rate for new(er) drivers is something close to 90%.
