Yup, Google does use human input in a way. Your cell phone automatic tell Google how fast ur going, n if a bunch of u slow down, it will detect something wrong n switch yellow on Google map. I didn't know about this till this year. Shocking at first but meh. My company can track me, the government track my logs....so might as well

If you use the navigation instead of just the map layout. It constantly speaks to you now of faster routes. Besides offer the estimated time to arrival in colors.

No setting involved. Real handy for them big cities that reside 45 million dogs. Los angeles for instance.

Not sure if it does that in the older versions. There's been 2 updates this month.

And there's that drone that's been keeping an eye on you. It knows what you did last summer.

I have a hotspot with unlimited data so I run Google Maps on an old phone and run a Rand TND 520 simultaneously. When Google suggests an alternate route because of a major delay I will exit, find a safe place to pull over, and analyze the detour for truck routing issues. I would say 80% of the time though I can take the suggested route if I'm not in a city on the east coast. And with the Rand running I also get input there for any possible problems ahead.
It's best for situations like the OP describes where a simple adjustment can save you a lot of time. But you do have to be running data.

If you had better receive In your radio you would have heard at least 30 miles in advance that there was a seven mile backup. Check out fine tune CB shop.com
None of his customers get stuck in backups. Unless it's by choice.

You seem to be making a lot of assumptions ...
    1. Those reporting have a decent radio and antenna setup (few do today)
    2. The receiver has his squelch turned way down (really? all day?)
    3. Anyone actually gives a dam to make meaningful reports in timely manner
Let's be honest, CB's are going the way of the dinosaur with the bulk of today's drivers.

Waze is a #### good app is one reason Google maps is what is today. It's real-time social updating that allows users to warn other drivers of road conditions. Those can be a simple pot hole, a police hiding in the bush or a major accident. I will even allow a the user to upload photos of the warning. Well worth a test drive...

Very relevant In my world as well as most people I know. I always leave squelch and rf gain wide open unless I'm sleeping for precisely what the original poster described. It would be rude and inconsiderate of me to not inform folks going the other way about a 7 mile backup.
My job is to make your job easier by informing you about delays, and I expect the same in return.
