There are so many "pitfalls" in the trucking industry today, far too many to name. Once upon a time, a person had to have an "inside pull" to even get an application from a trucking company. Who could have ever thought that now bonuses are now offered for signing on?? Never thought I would walk into a restroom and see a driver washing his feet in the sink, LOL. The "blame" for all the pitfalls could be placed on management and drivers. The companies are getting for what they pay for, and the attitude "runs down hill". Frankly, I see no improvements in the future. Would I recommend to a young man to pursue a career in trucking, only in the LTL section,

One man's trash is another man's gold, and vice versa. I worked at quite a few trucking companies before I found a home, but I only *hated* one of them. The rest just didn't work out to fit my needs for one reason or another. An example is Melton. I didn't have any issues with the outfit. They treated me about as well as one can expect. But, I left because I'm not cut out for flatbed, specifically, tarping. And, they tarped darn near every load. My dry cleaning bill went through the roof of my sleeping quarters!

What would you do?
7 years Flatbed/Hazmat/Dryvan
Receiver stops unloading my load 1/4 in. A hotshot had arrived and he switches to unloading hotshot.
Called receivers office for an explanation.
“Talk to the unloader I’m sure he has a good reason”
Forklift drivers reason
“ They broke down and need to pick up another load . “
I’ve experienced like most of you various levels of disrespect from all in this industry.
This was a new one, and I’m wondering if I had the right to leave?

Just remember that trucking is a lifestyle.
You are either made for it or not. -
When I hear people want stress-free and easy-going… The first thing I think is that individual is lacking mental fitness. If someone needs it easy, they are very weak mentally. Possibly to the point they’re mentally ill. If you allow things to bother you to a point where you are stressed out, especially when stressors are on the lower side of importance. You’re mentally weak. Fortunately, you can work on your mental fitness just like you can on your physical fitness. Take life in a winning attitude, not a losing one. Do not be afraid of pain or a struggle be a man and overcome the obstacle and create some productive. Trucking is about the easiest job there is. It requires very little skill and not much of anything. How do I know this? I’ve been driving truck for a while. Trust me when you go to the truckstop. Look around. You are not surrounded by the most capable men on the planet. This is a cake job. In yesteryear the old salts We’re required grit and skill. They didn’t just have a cell phone and Unlimited roadside service To bail them out. They also didn’t watch YouTube videos all day or spend all this time trucker report. They spent their off time fixing their truck, trying to get hooked up with a waitress, or reading a Bible. There’s lots of decent starter companies out there. They’ll take on a guy that doesn’t know anything and they don’t know him from Adam. They take a big risk taking a newbie on. I suggest going to TMC or the US Army 88M program.

Years ago, a hand would ask, “ Hey, do you know of a good outfit that will pay for honest work.” Nowadays, hear a lot of I need stress-free and comfort.
Men back in a day cared more about making their own path than being coddled. When we feel that we are in the need of all the comforts, let’s take a moment to reflect the Men who dug a path in this industry when it started. We could probably learn a lot from them. There’s a bunch of old timers here that might give some encouragement if asked the right way.7speed, Gearjammin' Penguin and snowlauncher Thank this. -
