Personal reasons is the reason cited, notice is notice. They don't necessarily conflict.
They know the two reasons people quit is because they think the company is a bunch of A-holes or they simply found a better job. You're entitled to say personal reasons, but still give notice if you want that "satisfactory" put on your DAC.
You gotta do what you gotta do, I'm just saying the safe answer is to give notice.
Thinking about leaving

I quit without notice in West Memphis after 2 yrs with them, never marked up my DAC, I had to rent a car at the airport to get home though, cost me about $300.00 to rent a Chrysler 300 for 2 days and drove it home to Michigan and turn it in at an airport there... if you can afford it?

You say you have been with this company for a year and a half. That means you have had enough time to evaluate the company/driver relationship there. If you have reason to actually believe they will screw you over for giving notice, then don't do it. Just leave.
BUT you say you have enjoyed working there. So that leads me to believe that they may be a pretty decent outfit to work for. In that case, you should give notice.
This is something that you are the only one to have the perspective on the company to make the decision. We don't have any idea of what the company is like...
Oh, one last thought here. When you resign, whether it is with or without notice, if you show the reason for quitting as "personal," they will likely think the worst. However, if you give them a valid reason, (ie; I found a local job, so I can be home every day,) it will leave a better impression. There is no point in unnecessarily burning your bridges... -
I recently quit at TMC and put in my 2 weeks, they routed me back to the terminal in Indiana right away coming from New Jersey, by the end of the week I was there and that was it. They offered a bus ride home to be taken out of my last check but I chose to rent a car back to New Jersey.
I know how you feel, I been raised also to give notice as well, but when you see people getting screwed all the time by companies it kinda makes you think why should I?
Good luck in whatever you decide. -
Man up and give notice. It doesn't matter what actions the company takes, you have to worry about your own honor. You cannot use what you think the company may or may not do to justify your own bad act. Give your two week notice, but be prepared for the worst. Clean your truck out before you give notice and have enough money on hand to get a bus ticket back home.

I sent my letter of resignation in today effective immediately. They had me take the truck to Shreveport from Dallas which i did within 4 hours of being told where to take it.I paid for the diesel which came out to $1.50 something a mile for the 169 mile trip.I hand washed the truck yesterday and cleaned and mopped out the inside.Spoke with my former fleet mgr after arriving at Shreveport today and he said he would mark me down as eligible for rehire. He also said if it was put down as anything else he would fight it.So hopefully that will be the case.
