According to some, there's literally NEVER a good time for trying something new

Agree. It's surely not the best time, but sometimes you just gotta make decisions.

If you are going to walk on thin ice, you might as well dance.

But remember, the decisions you make you gotta jump in both feet, not stick a foot in and test the water, think it’s not right, Go full bore, I’m going to do this attitude.

You’re going to get screwed over. probably safe to say, more than once.
You’re going to make money, so it seems, but that’s the trucks money, pay yourself a set salary, rest in a business bank acct for the company/truck.

Don’t blow the trucks money on vehicles and redoing your house, when it breaks down, you’ll have already spent the money.

    My two cents.

    Look at it this way.

Listen to the naysayers, sit on the sidelines and wait for 'the right time', and before you know it, you're 85 years old and still waiting.

    OR....

Just do it, ignore the naysayers and give it a try. If it works, great! If not, that's ok too. You won't be the first to fail, and you won't be the last. But at least you will die knowing you tried something.

While its true that the economy isn't the best, interest rates and fuel are high, and freight rates are not great. But if you can survive and make it go in the tough times, you should thrive when things are better. I think that's why so many are going broke right now. They jumped on the wagon when things were great, expected it to always be that way, and now look at them. They're a breakdown away from bankruptcy.

So you're gonna say with a straight face that the average O/O is running around making less than a company schmuck? And still doing it? I'm not buying it.

    W923 and Oxbow Thank this.

Maybe not the average, but there are plenty running that cheap freight that are just running their equipment into the ground to make a profit after paying the fuel. If they knew or cared enough to be budgeting for the depreciation and maintaince cost they probably would be better off as a company driver.

    Oxbow Thanks this.
