Poor Poor make pretend wanna be owner operator. :biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551::biggrin_2551:

Fleece purchase is very bad. You can set some of your own money back and get a decent late model truck with decent payments and a warranty. Unfortunately to many drivers are like impatient children and cant wait to play "Pretend Owner Operator." LOL.

I agree with the hell raiser guy. The math simply does not work in your favor. $700-$900 weekly payments? You gotta be out of your freakin mind. I will list all the advantages of a company driver over flease:

    1) No payments to worry about

    2) Can take time anytime he wishes and not get "in the hole."

    3) Full benefits health, unemployment, etc

    4) Paid on W-2 not 1099 so does not owe money to IRS at tax time

    5) A truck breakdown comes out of the company pocket not yours.

I could go on forever. I've said it before and I'll say it again fleasing is a modern form of indentured servitude. They dangle that carrot (overpriced truck) in front of you. You actually have less freedom than a company driver as you have to make those payments whether you're driving or not. Most fleases charge you big time if you don't complete the full lease term meaning your credit will get trashed. So you can't just walk away. Are you absolutely certain you can drive every week for the next three years? I don't know what will be three days from now let alone three years. I know a guy who fleased a truck and it kept breaking down and he was constantly putting money into it and he was not just working for free but was essentially paying to work. Think twice is all i can tell you.

Employees... a cancer that companies put up with because they have to.

    1) Has to log illegally to get enough miles for that paycheck to be worth anything.

    2) Can only take hometime when the company says so, and brown noses dispatcher enough to get within spittin' distance of home.

    3) Benefits are the pittance employer manages to scrape together because of massive fuel bill run up by jerk employees.

    4) Paid on W2 because employees are not responsible enough to manage their money to make tax payments.

    5) Truck is broken down because truck is driven into the ground due to employee chasing miles. See no. 1.

05 – Before the Purchase and Pre-Purchase Inspections

Failure story after failure story, it is bad enough to end up in a crappy lease or owner-op agreement, but if you can't keep the truck on the road because it keeps breaking down, you will not only fail, but fail quickly. There seems to be a disease among drivers who decide to lease-purchase a truck. I call it Chronic'ItsYourFaultatitas'. This disease is first seen in drivers, in its early stages shortly after they graduate truck school. Early symptoms usually start with the sudden lack of being able to do a thorough 112 point inspection. As the disease progresses, a 'Cowboy-ish' attitude starts to appear along side the desire to watch movies like 'Convoy' and 'Smokey and the Bandit', taking them as instructional videos for proper driving methods. During this stage of the disease, further loss of inspection ability is coupled with a paranoia against getting their hands dirtyand/or the lack of ability to crawl around and under their truck for any reason. Inits more advanced stage, the disease causes the inability to obey basic traffic laws and speed limit regulations, coupled with a 'Get out of my way' attitude. Also inthis stage, the driver starts to develop an attitude that leads them to believe that because they are a driver, this further excludes them from any responsibility towards keeping the truck repaired and well maintained. Finally, this disease completely cripples the drivers ability to think clearly, causing them to blame alltheir problems on bad dispatchers, bad mechanics, crappy trucks, bum deals, andanything else that justifies blaming their problems on someone else.

    Doesn't require independent thought.
