How long do you typically stay in the sleeper before hitting the road again? Only 10 hours, 12 hours or more? I know some drivers swear the jump as soon as the clock hits 10 hours.

Depends on the load. If I got a lot of time I stay longer. Usually start my day at 2am and shutdown around 1-3pm.

I let my body decide how long it's going to sleep. Some days I get about 3hrs and I'm cursing the elog system. Other days, if I'm feeling under the weather, I might sleep for 14. Being an O/O gives me more latitude than a company driver might have, but there isn't any sense in running your body into the ground.

6,7,8, 14, it all depends where I'm at, there's sometimes I get to the pickup or unload 10 minutes after everybody went home at 6, so there I sit till 8 or 9 the next morning.

At werner they complained if you went over 10 hours in sleeper. Even if you was in it for 15+ hours waiting on a load

Typically the truck I'm driving is ready to roll at the end of the 10 hour requirement, but sometimes your just not ready, in which case take another short nap. I am usually chomping at the bit to roll, I hate sitting.

Your body will dictate what you need. If you need the extra hour use it. Safer then falling asleep behind the wheel.

    kemosabi49 and HoneyBadger67 Thank this.
