Brace yourself lol here comes my story lol. So i retired from the navy 2 years ago. I got the option of a early out with full retirement at 15 years and i jumpes right on it lol. So i have been working at ups last 2 years as a package driver. People always ask me why the hell iam leaving ups to go drive trucks. Well i have always been interested in it. Its not about the money so much for me because i have done alright for myself. Dont get me wrong ups pays very very well. Right now iam at 33.49 hr. I average about 1800 a week take home and the benefits i have no premium for the insurance and no copay for my whole family. But we dont need that cause we arw covered through the military. Iam 38 been there done that in life. Got a very nice pension that i am already collecting and my wife just retired as well after 20 years from navy so we are ok. My dad drove trucks and all my uncles and my brother drives its in the family. I figure i give it a year see how it goes. If it doesnt work out i will hang it all up. We bought a 45ft diesel pusher rv a few years ago that i need to put some miles on her. She may get them in a year lol

In my case i don't ask for a lot of home time, but i know others that do and they have no problem getting it. So far i have about 28 days available, if i want to take lets say 2 weeks or more straight i can.
I can only talk about the miles i'm getting, and my miles average around 2,900 a week, I have got as low as 1,800 (the slow season) and as high as 3,600.
So far even though January is normally a slow month for flat beds, i had a strong two weeks.
The Equipment are new and very well maintained, and if you ever need repairs while you are on the road, the outside repairs get you help right away.
I hope this answered most of your questions, if i missed anything let me know. -
johnboy023 Thanks this.
