The whole punishment thing sounds absurd to me. They have different stages? 10hrs then 24hrs...then what happens?

I never want to miss a load that's going to take me home because I didn't have hours so I take the opposite approach of the guys above. I always try to get a reset while I'm heading home or just before

Werner just plain sucks. They've been doing the elog stuff for at least 30 years. If elogs was for safety, Werner would have the best safety record in the country. But they don't. They just suck.

Anyway, this is a prime example of mega carrier beancounting. Instead of. Going for gold, they try to survive on garbage. See, talent costs. Buy the best performing trucks, hire the best drivers in the industry, offer the best service, and attract the best paying customers. But megas like Werner buy fleets of POS trucks, chock the truck full of electronic cattle prods in an attempt to idiot proof trucking, and then send your recruiters to schools and hire people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I know the beancounting way looks to be promising, BUT look at what you could get if you were a performance oriented company.

    1. Less breakdowns.
    2. A worlds better safety score
    3. 1 solid driver is better than 4 Braindeads. Which is more efficient...to pay a solid driver $1600-1800/week or pay 4 morons $500-700/week? Another plus is that you would need worlds less office personnel needed for handholding. Trim the fat.

"But Six, there's a shortage of qualified drivers."

Make them. Start with better trainers, and raise the bar. If a student can't make the grade, send him home. Take your A Game drivers, and offer them a special pay package while training. $2000/week salary and $5000 bonus per student if that student stays 1 year. $10000 bonus if that student stays 1 year accident free.

Crap companies, like werner, will always prefer 4 braindeads over one good driver. When those mega-crap companies are run by desk jockeys with art history degrees, you will always get them looking at doing the least amount of work on their end to get loads moving. To make their stats look good they need a lot of drivers in many locations to reduce the deadhead miles and cover the freight for their dedicated accounts. The more drivers they have the easier it is to plan the freight. The more drivers they have the easier it is to reduce deadhead miles, the biggest unpaid expense for the company. Reduce the deadhead, cover the dedicated freight, the office staff looks like heros.

When running with a flock of deadheads, it is easy to blame all other faults on the driver. Lot of accidents; blame the driver. Lot of breakdowns; blame the driver. Low average miles driven; blame the driver. Lots of layover; blame the driver. Lots of service failure; blame the driver. Lots of fuel burned; blame the driver. Lots of trucks sitting without a load; blame the driver. Freight damaged; blame the driver. The braindead tend to take it in the ### and never speak up for themselves, which works great for the office staff that finds it easy to pass the buck.

Then when the seasonal surge drys up and freight drops off at the end of the year, office staff can add up all the faults of the braindead and fire them for 'safety violations.' Great deal, you get seasonal workers and never have to lay them off off or pay unemployment like other companies do.

Office personnel have brother, sisters, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, roommates, friends, spouses, cousins, botty calls, and children. These deadheads need jobs too and you can't make these people work for a living, They are surely better then truck drivers they need office jobs too!

As far as breakdown etc. I cannot control what the fabulous coworkers do not report. I imagine myprofile at werner has a money sign next to breakdown column or something. I'd imagine since i went solo I've called in well over 25k in breakdown since September.
They fix the equipment if it's reported to them.
    They do.
Last week i ran out of hrs. Pm and 60 day needed to be done.
Wound up needing a brake overhaul on the tractor.
All drums and shoes. Previous operator smoked them multiple times. I got as much out of them as i could.
Then the trailer i picked up with a placcarded hm load had 4 tires, flat spotted with patches of the tread ripped off.
Get this, the trailer just had a annual done. A week before i got the trailer assigned.
Did they ##### at me? Nope.
But i bet in my profile lol.
It pays dividends. Passed a random roadside inspection in Mississippi today.
    No violations.
