And that is often if not usually due to the "truck" to which the tandem axles are mounted being worn/not "perfectly" aligned.

You gotta have some slop in there or they wouldn't slide.

You can also have certain loads like 45' of steel beams and chained down. When you go around a corner in a parking lot the trailer will be warped and won't straighten out until your on a straight road. You can also get on the CB and ask someone in back of you or someone your passing to check you out.

Go back to the rear of the trailer and do a visual inspection, check the plugs are in the proper holes on both sides and if not reset the trailer tandems. If that doesn't fix it, note it on a DVIR the next time it goes in for a PM or DOT sticker. What causes trailers to dog-leg? Bent Axles or Rail from previous accidents or misuse like jack-knifes or sliding the tandems with the tractor at a 45° angle, which can put sideways tension on the Sliders.

Have you noticed huge boulders or 55 gal drums filled with cement that a lot of truck stops put out, maybe near their driveways to protect drivers from running over their flowers etc. as they enter or leave ? Now, have you noticed how most of these boulders etc have been run over, even dragged a few feet by more than a few drivers ? Now I ask you…..do you think the trailer tandems that went over these boulders need some alignment ?

Had BRAND NEW trailers coming off the dealers lot that were side tracking so not always the result of getting damaged but starting out misaligned

Grab a chassis and it will probably off track... moving tandam helps sometimes. Not talking about 1-2 inches off tracking, but enough for drivers passing me yelling at the cb I'm off tracking 8 inches.
