I too used the bottom bunk while in motion. It was only when we were both sleeping that I was up top.
That was nearly 5 years ago, however, but I doubt it has changed much.
I just brought down my sleeping bag and pillow so I would not be using his bedding.

My daughters have tried to use the top bunk, with the net, while driving. They hated it because it moves a LOT more up there than in the bottom bunk.
I've never tried it because I don't want a net around me, but I can imagine.
And no, I never used a net in the bottom bunk.

If your a dude, your going to go with some hill billy, now i'm mostly hill billy ( the good part mostly ), but many of my kin love to train new drivers. If your a chic, your going to get BIG SUZY as your trainer.

I have three words for you to make your sleeping experience the most pleasurable it can be.
    Sleeping bag, pillow.
Omitting any of these three words will cause your experience to suck.

I'm former navy... Maybe a bit biased..

But if a bit of hot racking is to much for you...

Maybe you are too much of a p.u.ss.y to do this job!!

    1) Sleeping
    2) Bag
    3) Pillow

Now even my redneck self can count to three. Should say pillows though, cause the first one is going to go into the gap between the mattress and the sleeper wall.

I would like the new guy I'm training to get some sleep, it makes it a little less likely that he kills me. So I'd be just fine with swapping bunks as long as he doesn't pee the bed.
