In an effort to further understand the industry, I ask the following:

To all the Owner Operators out there, when you find a load to haul, is the freight broker associated with that load typically transparent about the size of their cut at any point? In other words, does the broker ever share with you how much they are making off of the load?

If not transparent, would it make a difference to you if they were? If so, why?

For the rare amount I use a TL broker I don’t worry about their cut, I make my bid and they either take it or I go on to the next one, the only reason Id like to see the original invoice is to make sure there’s no other hands in the cookie jar, though usually a couple of questions you can tell the answer to that anyway

No, why would they ? As they say in the stock market, "buy low, sell high". Whatever the market will bear. The brokers are aware of crappy freight, crappy freight lanes, etc. So thry know easy to book loads and terrible loads before they post them. You've heard of loads that never get posted because the brokers already know who they will give them to.

basic questions about the load, “oh truck load 44000 pounds take it or leave it” means it was more then likely cut and paste and have no idea the specifics of it, meanwhile when they can actually tell you what you are hauling and where it’s going it is probably one of their actual customers they are trying to cover

For the short time I added brokerage to my skill set, I always gave the O/O or company a copy of what I was getting paid. I didn't have the heart to keep more than 10% which I really worked for. Eventually I stopped dealing with it as some drivers belonged in the "can't fix stupid" line

Brokers are professional scammers without anyone controlling them.

Why would matter? It’s none of your business what the broker took the load for. It’s on you as a company to turn a profit. Charge a profitable rate, if the broker won’t pay it then move on.

Anybody who cries about a broker stealing money from them is either lazy or bad at running a business.
