My tri pac works fine except it stopped sensing low voltage ie it will drop below 12v and doesn't start to charge batteries. Only way to start it is to set it to a.c. and it will start and run fine.
    What could be the problem?

Could be the sensing wire by alternator white wire it use to be.
They are known to break. not sure if you have older non evolution or newer. But check the sensing wire. Been years since I worked on the tri pak

Also check to be sure your battery terminals are clean and tight and no corrosion. Might load test batteries as well
See if they are any good.

Last time batteries went bad it would start and attempt to charge them. One of batteries was swollen and apu ran non stop.
