Assuming you keep the cab cool, yes. Shut off the truck and let your cab get to 90 (100+ in Florida summer in just an hour or two) At 90 cab temp your cooler is only going to be about 70, maybe 60 at best. Not good for most foods and certainly not any dairy products.

Yes, the option is a $500-1,500 real compressor driven refrigerator. Personally I like my beverages almost ice cold. In fact when my water has ice crystals in it... Perfect.

Even at $1,500 which is really pretty high that's only $4.11 a day for a year. I would be willing to pay $4/day for COLD water after putting on a load of cars in 100 degree heat at 98% humidity.... Nooo problem... LOL. And that fridge will last at least 3 or 4 years or hopefully more so in reality it's like $1.00/day or $30/month... And thats for an extremely expensive $1,500 unit. Spend $750 and it's only $0.50/day! No real question when you put it that way...

But to each his own. As long as what you have works for you and makes you happy who am I to tell you your doing it wrong?!?

 

Hm. I guess I better tow myself to the wally store and eyeball the #### thing myself. ANYthing I can do to stick a small fridge on the corner to save the labor and time lost getting drinks in between map loadings is a bonus.

 

Since we are correcting folks.... It's SINE Wave, but the Walmart fridge don't care, $150 inverter $120 Walmart dorm fridge. 5 to 10 years service, with a freezer.

Actually...... "Sine wave" refers to the particular way the electrical pulse looks on an oscilloscope. The 60 cycle (or Hertz) you hear about is represented as a wave on an oscilloscope screen. It looks similar to the medical EKG screen you see on TV when someone is in the hospital. The difference is in the shape of the wave. An EKG represents the different electrical pulses going on in/through the heart. Someone knowledgeable in reading an EKG can tell quite a bit about what's going on inside just as an electronic technician can tell a lot about what's going on inside your inverter by looking at the shape of the wave on the screen.

When looking at an oscilloscope, and evaluating alternating electric current, the electronic technician is going to see a SINE WAVE. The question is if that sine wave is what they call a TRUE or MODIFIED shape. True is what your SUPPOSED to get from your wall outlet and in this country it is in fact what do you USUALLY get. Almost all inexpensive (a relative term to be sure) inverters are modified. I would be surprised if any of the inverters sold at truck stops is of the "True sine wave" design.

A $150 inverter is almost certainly going to be one of the "modified sine wave" types rather than one of the "true sine wave" types.

But yes, the fridge (usually) really won't care much. Computers, TVs (especially older TVs) and other electronics usually do care. Laptops with the brick charger, some do, some don't. In any case everything will work better and last longer with true sine wave but true SW units are usually considerably more expensive than modified, most people don't know (or care) about the difference.

just got my fridge at walmart for 79.84 and microwave for 49.00.

 

They will both give you good service, try to have the truck running when you use the microwave.

 

Well I just pulled out my frozen chicken for tommorow dinner, vegetables , oh yes and ice cold water. As commented early on, I get good use outta my fridge/freezer. I met to mention, on my fridge it has 7 temp settings, I keep it on 3.5, all the time, any higher it will put icicles in my milk...lol...even at 110 degree heat in Calexico, CA last year and other places I never had to change the settings. I tested it when I started using fridges years back and let mine alone with no Air Conditioning running, even with hot temps inside my truck, them Popsicles , and meats still frozen solid. Milk, eggs in my fridge stayed cold to, it was all good. Love my fridge saves me a lotta wasted time and money. Oh I put a tray of ice cubes in now and then to...lol...yep I stick with my $125.00 mid size fridge/freezer from Home Depot. Okay , I'll be having chicken , baked patatoe, chicken country gravy, peas, and a icy cold drink come supper...beware a good fridge will spoil you ...lol...you have to read my earlier post if you wanna know more about my fridge in my truck

 

Like you said both will give good service truck engine running when the microwave in use agree with this
About the fridge if running should I off it rights away when truck engine stop running ..

I never off my fridge when my truck isn't running. The microwave running, yeah I run truck, but fridge I never off my fridge when my truck isn't running.
