Gotta agree with you here. Still, it sounds like this lady didn't know much about rigs, and neither did
the rookie. Shoulda had someone there who was experienced about these issues, but that's life.

This is definitely not good. You bought the truck under the impression that it did indeed have an engine brake. So it's been sold to you under "false pretense". I'd definitely take it back. My engine brake quit last week (clutch switch was keeping it from coming on) and in spite of what everyone says about being able to come downhill with a load and no Jakes just by gearing down, I won't be doing that again. I had to gear down to first gear and come down at 5mph. That's way too slow for me. I'm getting my Jakes rebuilt at the end of the year

you guys keep saying stab braking when you mean snub braking. Stab is where you stand on the brakes hard til they lock up the let them go. Snub is where you apply the brakes for about 5 seconds to shed off speed and rpms to keep the unit under control.

There is no false pretenses involved, the sale person lacked the knowledge as much as the buyer, so there is nothing that can be done about it.

What gets me is doesn't anyone take this seriously?

Look buying a truck is not like buying a car, get an ECM dump, go talk to a dealer with a serial number in hand and have them pull up the truck order to see what's on it, get an independent opinion about the condition of the truck.
