Its that way with bulk too. Usually im slinging rock as fast as i can get it on the truck this time of year. Now landscapeing rock is hardly moving and a goodly percentage of my loads are scrap or fertalizer which is just weird this time of year.
Edit: also for looking under the trailer, my dad had a back issue. He used a mirror on a stick and could and did do the exact same inspection everyone is supposed to....most good drivers will get under the trailer and check lines at least.

Joking aside, sometimes it is either health or trucking. Whatever OP's health issues were corrected, it's important to make sure that a typical trucking lifestyle would not undo them. For starters say no to junk food and adopt and exercise regimen. Buy a smart watch and do 5000 steps a day for 100 days, do some sit ups and stretching, you will be positively surprised how quickly your body gets in shape. Good luck.

It really depends on what company you work for, and how good of a driver you are. If you're a good worker, you'll continue to make some good money in the bad times. Companies will make sure to keep their best drivers happy. Some companies will run you good enough to make a paycheck. Me personally, I've managed to stay above 2500 miles so far this calendar year, with a few 3000 plus mile weeks. I think it may be better to look for smaller companies with mega capabilities. With super large companies, I haven't figured out if they're too big to keep everyone busy, or if they have incompetent dispatchers.Chinatown Thanks this.

I suppose old sayings don't work anymore, when someone said "hauling the mail", they generally didn't mean USPS, just a figure of speech, consarnit. Nobody buying things? Where you at, Mars? My Walmart parking lot is JAMMED daily, why, I think my TV just fried, so guess what? I'm BUYING another. Coming into outdoors season, some folks have TWO carts worth of crap, so while certain luxuries may be down some, everyday goods are probably stacked at warehouses waiting with nobody to haul it.

That hurts just looking at it

I would bet you been truckin for a long time, or way back, and not your first rodeo. I think once you get your meds, and physical abilities back , you will do just fine. good luck
