Hello everyone,
I have been reading posts here for a while to understand how this industry is working " and it was an inspiring experience". Since I have my own trucker relatives and I have been learning about this industry and how it operates.
I established a software company that is trying to improve a small part of the operations of trucking maintenance, more specifically O/O.
To be clear, I'm not looking to sell you anything. (I'm not even mentioning my product or company name).
But since most of you have the real experience in the industry, I'd like to get your advice on the software idea I'm trying to build so I do not build the wrong thing.
The idea of this software is:
1- it's a phone app,
2- it takes truck details (make, model, year, tire type...), trip details "frequently"
3- based on input from other trucker (point#2) , it predicts mechanical or electrical issues that you might have before you have them.
(E.g : check your truck for , possible brake failure)
4- the main reasons behind this idea is that you can check out before any trip you take. So truck maintenance in home vs on the road is,
A- safer
B- less urgent
C- less problematic
D- maybe cheaper
E- no commitment/load to be missed
ALL feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and have a great day.

Hate to be frank, but any O/O worth a darn inspects his truck from bumper to bumper on a regular basis and knows his truck far better than any app could ever hope to. So, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of purchasing an app.
blairandgretchen, Lepton1, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this. -
RustyBolt,
Thanks for your feedback.
What if it was a free app? Would you use it? Or even Install it? -
Nope.
But that's just my opinion. Maybe others will chime in with differing opinions.blairandgretchen and Träger Thank this. -
Really appreciate your feedback.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

Mirror his input. Maintenance is a hands on affair. The only app I use is for onboard scales.Träger Thanks this.

In order to make this at all useful you would need a TON of data which few people would knowingly give you. There is no way I would let your app plug into my truck, nor would I spend time inputting the data myself. Even just pulling location info from my smartphone would be a deal breaker for me. I don't use truckerpath much because of how much data it mines on me - and that is a robust app.
In short, you're going to spend a lot of time and effort on something that will sit on the shelf in the app store gathering dust.HoneyBadger67 and Träger Thank this. -

Here is program pretty close to same thing. It's more about accounting
What you can expect from GaugesTräger Thanks this. -
Thanks gentleroger,
Let me try to address few points here, maybe this would help.
1- do I need ton of data? Probably! I don't know yet.
2- would I ask you to plugin anything in your truck? No. It's a Hassel for everyone.
3- would I ask you to keep the app running all day ? Probably not.
Here is how I envisioned this working: before every trip you make , you ask the app what's the expected issues, and it asks you what was your last trip and if you had any issues or maintenance done.
The industry is regulated enough that you have to drive certain hours in certain speed ... So I don't need to worry about hourly details for now.
4- no data entry is needed, it's speech recognition. Like banking bot.
I didn't want to mention the points above to convince you guys, I wanted to clarify things I missed.
No matter what, if an experienced trucker thinks an app would be no use, it's no use.
Again, really appreciate your feedback. It saves a lot of time and effort.
